Which is exactly what happened in cities like Mt. Clemens and Pontiac, MI. they couldn’t afford their police department, so the county sheriff’s depts took over the responsibility, hiring most/all of the former city police officers. All it did in practice was change the color of the uniforms they were wearing.

At least Sheriff’s are generally elected. It certainly comes with its own problems, but at least there is a means to affect a change in leadership for that organization.

Exactly, In my home town I might see the Sheriff maybe twice a year, they just aren’t needed because the town police are able to cover the job. At my college in rural New York, they have a much larger presence, but no where near as large as somewhere in the south.

We get it. Unions good, companies bad, rich people bad. Rich people who donate millions still bad. Rich people who donate every penny they have still bad because their ancestors obtained the money unfairly.

Came to Jalopnik today to read about car stuff. Left dissapointed that Jalopnik finds a way to bitch about someone donating money/resources, when the donating entity doesn’t have to do it at all.
