Yeah, no argument there... but this really seems to address how people who “grew up” on the modern internet with social media, etc., seem to approach things. They think a good tweet is what makes things successful... not, you know, actual planning and physical anything.

This feels, in part (and not wholly at all!) what happens when we actually shift everything to “the internet” and forget that actual work and things need to occur in addition to the no-work hype on social media.

don’t you mean “Lord of the Flyes”?

I hope that one of the charges filed against the organizers is charging $5k to see Blink-182 in the year 2017.

I genuinely feel bad for the musicians, vendors, carpenters, and other service providers who have been burned by these fuckers. Making your living is hard enough without having to chase fraudsters who take your time and labor and fail to pay, let alone getting your equipment stuck in customs for debts that are not

I could do whatever I wanted with mine and right before I read your comment I was thinking that the way I butchered my American girl dolls made me appreciate my creativity and now I want to go rescue them from my parents attIc and put them on display. I have a signed Kirsten with lost clothes, so I can show off that

I don’t know if they weren’t a thing in the 80's or maybe it’s because I was in Canada but I don’t remember these dolls when I was a kid. The accessories that you can get with them are adorable but I can’t get over how bland the dolls faces are? Like, did they even try to make them look cute?

The body looks like an anorexics dream.....that is more alarming to me....you could drive a toy car thru the gap in her thighs....ouch.

God, true. Our family dog got into the American Girl Doll box a few years back and decided toes and fingers were delicious; I was gone at college and nearly cried when I found out Kaya and Josephina made it out intact. Those girls were my everything.

You can still buy a basic Barbie for about $5. She will probably be wearing a bikini. You can also pay hundreds, it’s all based on the clothes and hairstyles. My daughter loves the Around the World Barbies, which run about $35-50+. They’re outfitted for different countries and often have a small animal with them,

When the catalog started out, it was Pleasant Company. Then the owners sold it to Mattel, which quickly started to ramp up the product lines and kill the historical dolls. I’m not surprised they’re getting made cheaply now. Mattel knows toys as a volume business, not an aspirational toy you hope your grandparents will

I think I recall that they were going for about $100 when I was a girl, which was 25 years ago. After much yearning I finally got Samantha for Christmas. She’s still in immaculate condition in our old closet while my sister’s Molly rests there disheveled with limbs akimbo. Sums us up.

These are strictly in the “now your grandparents will spoil you insanely” territory. But they are (used to be) really well made, with a natural waist and an accompanying book that tells the story of a plucky girl from a specific era, and bonus: not just blonde Beckys.

Sure but that’s not the fault of the consumer. They should have been creeping up their prices to keep up with inflation, not reducing the quality of the product.

So, the period dolls had period undergarments. Not, like, Thinx period undergarments, but historically appropriate to their era.

Was Barbie’s chest not made of ballistics-grade plastic back in the day? Because there were no red-tipped pins going into my Barbies’ tits! (Just lots of silver ones in the face, for very trendy eyebrow piercings and such.)

‘Sewed on’? I would have fixed that in about five seconds. I played with dolls in the sixties. All my Madame Alexanders were stripped and redressed regularly. The Barbies were all sexually promiscuous and had straight-pins pushed into their boobs for nipples.

I, for one, would prefer to pay extra for something I immediately cut away with scissors the moment I open the box.

It seems like they are more peeved that it’s a move toward the dolls being made more cheaply without reducing the cost to the consumer. Don’t try to sell me a $115 doll and cut corners.

Zip ties? You’re offended by zip ties vs strings in the boxes? That’s a whole new level of necessary detail
