Luckily she wont have to for much longer

“In what context is it ever fucking okay to lie and get someone killed?”

From the article, it sounded like she sent the memoir to a university to be kept locked until the 2030's. So she wrote a story, but wants to make sure that nobody can read it until she’s for-sure gone and doesn’t have to answer for whatever is in there. Courageous!

Very easily. She is a racist piece of shit who’s been living off her white privilege and the knowledge that she was responsible for the killing of an innocent black child. Fuck her and fuck her entire family. I hope someone fire bombs her house.

But don’t confuse “explaining” with “excusing.” That the context of the mid-20th century was more forgiving socially, legally, and morally about such things than we are now does not excuse that context.

She lied to the court. I don’t think she lied to her husband, at least that’s not how I’m reading it. I think he sure as hell knew what he was reacting to and the lie was just a convenient way to protect him and ensure that the already sympathetic jury came down in his favor. Doesn’t really make it much better but

Yeah, but in her case, a US society backed those facts upon an entire race for generations. Power is what makes rewriting facts more harmful, and one directional.

I don’t really want to defend this woman but do you really think a man who would abduct and murder a kid, white supremacy or not would think twice about beating the shit out of his girlfriend or wife? Women (and men) stay married to horrible people all the time because they’re afraid or otherwise browbeaten into

Exactly. There were many people who did not beat and kill. There were even white people who were willing to go to the South to march, to help register, to be active in the communities. Not everyone believed that was just the way it was.

What she did in the context of the mid-1900s (interesting way of putting it as though there aren’t people around from that time.) doesn’t make what she did, or her, any less fucking disgusting. In what context is it ever fucking okay to lie and get someone killed?

His death is on her. May she be cursed and take the shame of her lies to her grave.

Would have been nice to confess when his mother was still alive to hear it.

“When Carolyn herself [later] lost one of her sons, she thought about the grief that Mamie must have felt and grieved all the more.” Let me guess, her son was being falsely accused of harassing a pure white woman and subsequently tortured and murdered? If not, your grief is NOTHING compared to Mamie’s grief and the

Exactly. “That case went a long way toward ruining her life,” is how a lot of these people choose to not see the people who really suffered.

I think anyone that would date and support a man that would do those horrific things to any other human has already shown what kind of person they are.

Some acknowledge what they did and try to make things right.

This woman obviously doesn’t care that much since she hasn’t said anything for 60+ years and when she did finally speak out used shit like, “that’s just how things were.”

According to Vanity Fair, Donham was the one who approached Tyson because she was writing her memoirs.

I don’t understand how she can live with herself. Holy shit.

Don’t you know that white feelings are more important than black lives? Fuck her, her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Fuck them all.

WTF, the case ruined her life. A young man was murdered and hse lied to defend the murderers. SMMFH!
