I’m not going to totally dunk on Hodge, but I would take that deal. Now that this is published...not so sure they will give him that goodwill offer. There are not many automakers covering half of an engine replacement cost at 140k miles (on an engine that has not totally failed yet, no less), regardless of their fault

Looks like Ford picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue...

Tesla is a marketing company that happens to make some cool cars. When we hit the next recession that impacts the auto industry hard, that stock is gonna taaaaank as people change their HODL philosophy. But the economy is on the opposite trajectory right now.

Quotes aren’t binding when it comes to another buyer. Its FCFS unless you place a deposit. I think the issue is that they aren’t even willing to provide a high price over the internet. For example, I found a vehicle in another state. It’s the color and options I want. I’m happy with the price. I write the internet

My brother has said that the experience of buying a car is worse than getting a root canal, and he is right.

I am shocked Tesla

“Are you telling me, you built a time machine... out of a Bricklin?”  - Marty McFly in an alternate, better timeline.  The Delorean gave those two nothing but problems

You say this as a joke...yet I wonder if they’d be sketchy enough to try this argument

I’d feel better about the BaT cars because they have been maintained and periodically driven, the owners surely had some appreciation of the investment and risk. Dealers DGAF, seals drying out, tires dry rotting, rotors rusting etc. These will be basket cases. They should be gradually selling them off through primo auc

I do too! Looks awesome. 400+ mile range. A wide range of advanced driving assistance features. Almost...too...good...to...be true. They are doing journalist prototype test drives, so that should be encouraging.

From quoting a lot of automotive production parts to all of the OEMs, I now have a nose for vaporware. For instance, I have quoted a ton of Rivian parts - even early on they were prepping the supply chain. Starting to get desperation requests for quote, so they will be on the roads soon. Early on, saw lots of Tesla

That is insane, but since they probably reverse engineered a lot of what Tesla created in the first place, unsurprising. Shilling is basically just ‘reposting’ May, so I think you’d want to register your complaints with James May, instead?

I first saw it a few days ago, too on Twitter, Reddit, etc. I’m bewildered by people thinking you are combing the comments of other Jalopnik articles for content to publish. Just opening Reddit and checking upvoted content would be so much easier!  An article that finds the source and backstory would be great, but you

Bumper can be trimmed, side steps taken off...or just give it a leveling kit or lift

If you pull the trigger, and it is beyond the recommended interval, replace the timing belt and water pump before you drive it back to Michigan. Also...make sure that rack and pinion issue isn’t just the intermediate steering shaft. I’m not suggesting the mechanics don’t know what they are doing, it’s just the rack

Is it a Ranger or F150?

ahh, memory lane: I remember being at a Jalopnik karting event, and the minute I walked in, this kid started talking to me excitedly about his junky Jeep - which was nice, because I went there by myself, and didn’t know anyone. Then he proceeded to talk all of the writers ears off about his junky Jeep and all things

The company that makes it claims that the resins can be thermally recovered from the flax easily vs carbon fiber, FWIW.

Whoops, Model Y ‘base model’ was cancelled in June. They only sell the long range. At the time VW was developing this vehicle, they believed it would be undercutting the base Model Y in price, but would otherwise benchmark against it with similar specs...then Tesla outsmarted them, and simply raised the price on the Y

This isn’t Chevy Bolt sized. It is meant to take on the Model Y, and has comparable range to the Model Y base model, but at a lower price.  Though it still isn’t enough range for me to be interested, so I do understand where you are coming from...
