Airstreams are heavy...cool, but heavy. built to last. This is Jalopnik, so it’s a pretty broad swath of demographics....even in the RV forums, this topic gets pretty testy. Jalopnik skewing younger and less experienced and more enthusiastic makes this stuff fun for old farts like me to try and add some value through

Bumper pull still puts 10-15% of the trailer’s weight, and the weight distributing hitch itself subtracting from payload. But re tech and spec - absolutely - but go find a max payload F150 on a dealer lot...ok I’ll wait...won’t happen....that’s a custom order truck and a rare bird, because at that price, it’s a far

couple other things to know - of course the rear axle ratio has a TON to do with how a truck behaves while towing...a boat is FAR easier to tow for most trucks than a camper due to how the tongue weight is so different (affecting payload) and the wind resistance piece as well. Towing is just really complex with so

of course...several elements. 1: today’s ‘manly’ trucks are heavy and fancy and loaded with gizmos, 2: today’s trucks are using a LOT of aluminum to offset some of that 3: today’s engines are FAR superior and 4: today’s transmissions are FAR superior. At the same time, half the F150's you see on the road have a 2.7 v6

clearly you don’t tow....it’s a common misconception. Payload (what the vehicle can haul) is different from Towing Capacity (what the vehicle can pull). The hype of 13k towing is Ford Marketing - almost NONE of the F150's you see are rated to tow 13K.... see here on page 33 for Towing and on page 32 for Payload https:/

you’re right - but running the numbers isn’t AT ALL the point of an RV or a boat.  Kind of like drugs....there’s no ROI on drugs, but people spend their last dime on a bag. Or art....or show cars....or racecars...or motorcycles....or airplanes....or fancy houses.....or whatever.  It’s about being happy doing what you

I didn’t either for the longest time.  I was a biker guy - until the wrecks of my friends, then it was a case of don’t wanna ride anymore, but still miss the adventures....bought my first camper with the money I got from my bike. It’s not for everyone, but it’s pretty damn cool to me and my family and a whole lot of

gotta leave early - stuck in traffic harshes the mellow for sure.

like the other dude said, there’s fifth wheel rigs that are sold as and supposedly half ton towable...but I ain’t gonna...someone will... the RV forums are littered with guys who buy a bigger truck after buying a camper they ‘thought’ or ‘were told’ they could tow....will it pull it...sure....will you like how that

you do you man, I’ll do me. you have no idea what I do for the earth, you pompous and assuming shithawk.

i don’t always even make it to the car, if I’ve been on the swish or too many raviolis

depends on the rig...there are examples of anything and everything, and always someone willing to take it to the limit.  Not me or anyone I know, but sure..it exists.

we are at the tail end of a cycle...fair point.  a crap ton have been sold in the last couple years and demand is largely satisfied at the moment for new units....so many good newer used ones out there.

Agreed.

No Super Crew F150 has 3000 in payload - even stripped.  Once it’s optioned up, they’re all really about 1500# payload.

yep -  why we work

I’ve literally considered the very same thing....you could make good money doing that really.  Time is valuable, and leisure time is VERY valuable to people with money.

a SCREW cab with a short bed is for towing...not for hauling.   it’s even easier to wheel that dresser in a $3500 cargo trailer hitched up to the ‘ol dozer.

the difference between an F350 full tonner and an F250 3/4 is about 1900 dollars in the rear suspension...look it up....they’re literally the same truck with an extra leaf for the most part.

you must live in Missouri....(said with affection)
