I don’t think this is the whole reason, but people watched Michael Jackson grow up. We didn’t know Cosby as a child. It’s probably harder to imagine someone as a creep when your first impressions of them are as a cute little kid.

I remember one book where Kristy babysits for an autistic girl (which she was in no way qualified to do) and it scared the crap out of me. I worried that my 2 year old brother was going to regress and stop talking like the girl in the book. Ironically I was diagnosed with Aspergers years later. Weird.
They always felt way older than they actually were. Especially Stacy. She acted a little too grown up. Didn’t she go to a school dance with a teacher, or am I not remembering that correctly?
There has to be a way to safeguard the rights of the disabled and to allow people the freedom to choose how they want to end their lives. Shouldn’t both of those things be the goal?
She sounds awesome although I’m really not a fan of her position on assisted suicide. Wouldn’t a better idea be to advocate for the laws to include protections against manipulating disabled people?
Yeah, I get the argument against it, but it feels like it’s denying people bodily autonomy. It’s sort of the extreme end of the social model of disability, which is definitely better than the medical, but it doesn’t seem to take into account that certain disabilities can just be inherently painful and debilitating.
I kind of feel like there’s two types of mental illness symptoms: the type that causes pain to the person suffering from it and the kind that causes behavior that is socially unacceptable. I know that it’s extremely reductive, it’s just what I think whenever I read about the biological vs social aspects of mental…
I read that rats make better pets than mice apparently.
Or they only research men, so if women tend to present symptoms differently they don’t get diagnosed. I spent most of my teen years being treated by a psychiatrist who categorically refused to consider my mother’s belief that I might be autistic, because I was too social. Turns out that autistic girls are often more…
The whole “Chronic Lyme” scam makes me so angry. Those quacks are clearly taking advantage of women desperate for an answer, and making them sicker. They’re already speculating that Lyme is the “real” cause of Blair’s illness.
After Tom Cruise, anything must have seemed like a breath of fresh air, but I hopes she gets into a better relationship.
What’s funny is that you’d think Roma would win, due to the MAGIC OF CINEMA references alone.
Maybe if we’re lucky all of the billionaires will die from these stupid fads.
We didn’t lose because of Bernie fans. We lost because the electoral college is a fundamentally undemocratic system.
And they most certainly did not show that the band played South Africa during apartheid.
At least Xanax isn’t as deadly as heroin?
How fucking hard is it to say “I’m sorry”?
Don’t the Japanese do this too but with English?
It’s like parenting is a contest for these women.
Well, once you’re an adult you can try to relive those years, but you’ll never actually be able to be a kid again.
