GM prices their vehicles like a shitty department store that always has coupons and “deals. Just like nobody actually pays $85 for a pair of no-name jeans at JC Penny, nobody actually pays MSRP for a woefully generic GM SUV.

All of these suggestions when the answer is to fund highway projects with something other than a gas tax.

I have driven on Michigan roads. I don’t believe for a second anyone is hauling significant quantities of asphalt!

I used to listen to many episodes of Car Talk before bed when I was a kid. They posted new shows on the Car Talk website back in the simple dialup days. They never posted links to much older episodes, but they were on their server and if you changed the URL, you could still download the audio files. I probably

Well right, but that cost and associated downtime go up significantly as they age.

Owned? Surely you meant to say leased.

For roughly the cost of one Land Cruiser, I could buy two new 4Runners and beat the crap out of one off road without concern.

Tesla reminds me of Subaru, at least past-Subaru. You’re “paying” for the powertrain, not a super nice interior.

The real cost, especially when you include externalities, is undoubtedly far more expensive compared to transit.

This! My wife and I and two light suitcases for a three day trip, it literally couldn’t accelerate up hills at highway speed. My wife, who doesn’t really think much about cars, now refuses to rent one.

So what you’re saying is that one powertrain may not serve 100% of customers? How is this any different than how a full-size pickup wioth a V6 also won’t serve the towing needs for everyone?

Huh? What exactly do you see coming after EVs, fission powered cars? I assume you mean battery electric vehicles and of course the goal will always be to reduce material content. That’s the chief goal of every industry producing every product that has ever existed.

Most automakers and suppliers have already invested a lot of research money to meet future standards. A rollback means the playing field is no longer even, because shitty automakers (FCA) will benefit by having fewer stranded assets. The industry would prefer regulatory certainty, and there are reasons why the

I would be more than happy if more airplanes had some sort of divider under the armrest, like some airline seats already do. Kind of like the dividers between a urinal.

Who promptly move their earnings offshore anyways.

We own a 2013 Mini Cooper S that we bought new, and the number of creeks and rattles is insane. I’m sure they improved this in the current model, but my god... I can’t imagine how maddening it would be without a noisy engine covering up most of those sounds.

Everything you and the people responding to you are complaining about is completely ignoring the fact that cars are so much better today than any point in history. It’s fine if you want to own cars with old-car traits. But automakers will sell what the market wants, and you’re clearly in the minority and missing out

Same here. That was the era that I became fascinated with F1 and regularly watched races. Over time, many things changed to the sport that made me lose interest. Today, I don’t recognize half the teams.

Or it means that the state determined that the fine was sufficient?
