The reduced demand definitely came first. It’s been gradually going down since the 90s. It really dropped when autos became more fuel efficient than manuals and offered zero degradation for acceleration.
It’s inevitable. I think it makes sense to target the premium segment for manuals. It seems that the case even for higher end cars. For example, lots of people want a manual M3, but very few want a manual 340i. Same thing for the 911. Carrera? PDK please. GT3? Different story.
