There is a difference between an actual mystery with a resolution, which the series appears to be working towards, and the oft-maligned “Mystery Box”, which is all about setting up something with no idea what it means.


My take is that the existence of the journal means that there are people who have conspiracy theories about Veidt anyway. I could have sworn that the first film addresses this, when they try to do exactly that and wind up in a spot they had been at previously.

My understanding (theory?) was that the “numbers” were a reflection or manifestation of Jacob’s will. In the sense that when he was manipulating events, even on a small scale, the “numbers” were the unusual “order within chaos” that resulted.

Indeed...the vast majority of the “mysteries” were ultimately explained. Some people just didn’t like the explanations. Which is fine, because people can decide not to like the resolutions of plot threads or the ending of a story. It doesn’t necessarily mean the story is objectively bad, though, which far too many
