I’m not informed enough to come down hard on either side of the argument. But I bet people back in 1950 thought the Powerglide was the bee’s knees and that there was no need for more than two gears. And yet, here with are with 10 speeds being super common.

Yeah... I don’t think I’d be attempting to touch the apex predator of the ocean.  Too bad the Orca didn’t retaliate or see him as a snack.

Brammo had a transmission on their motorcycle, and it was well received. While yes, a transmission does create another source a parasitic loss, it also allows to various torque ratios.  Plus, I don’t believe most electric motors are equally efficient at all speeds.  So it might be possible to use a transmission to

I said almost exactly that...

Probably because Musk realizes China will retaliate in some way, and that he likely wants to expand production in China and export those Chinese models elsewhere in the world. An EV trade war with China will likely blow up into other markets as well.  Potentially having tariffs on his products would only serve to hurt

I don’t see any dragging, though the angles are bad enough that maybe it happened while not in view of the camera?

If they had just gone with a step 3a) or 4a) which resulted in the sweet, sweet Volt tech spreading into Tahoes and Equinoxes and Silverados... damn, it would have been glorious.

Don’t forget about changing airbag design to be best for belted occupants. Right now, they have to work for both belted and unbelted occupants, which means they work less well for belted ones.

Why not make it a percentage based thing. 10 over in a 30mph (even if it ain’t a school zone) is a heck of a lot worse than 10 over in a 65mph.

I wonder how that would impact actual delays.

That was emotional?

You can still do that and not do well on an RTI test; as evidenced by vehicles like the Camel Trophy participants.

Someone’s cranky...

A big difference being that corn doesn’t typically make up 60%-85% of peoples’ diets. Corn isn’t bad for cows at levels similar to what humans eat (even if you want to include corn syrup in that amount).

If you watched the video, you’d know that subsidies largely switched away from systems that paid farmers to not farm, to a system that had price guarantees and large crop insurances discounts.  Not that it makes it any better, but you could at least watch the video, learn a bit, and then make more informed comments.

Don’t forget water usage.  Hey, John Oliver did an episode on that too!

Here’s the bit that talks about that...

Do they actually want Chinese EVs or do they simply want more cheap EV offerings?

Car prices continue to climb, wages no longer tracking with productivity (or inflation)... yeah, people will cling to their old ones longer.

Car “roofs” are typically different than living spaces. I don’t think anyone would consider this to not have a roof:
