I do almost the same thing sometimes, but I add jalapenos and coconut milk. There is so much you can do with the base of this recipe. And I swear, I keep thinking this came out of Peg Bracken’s I Hate to Cook book, which I love, even though I wouldn’t make a lot of the recipes.  She was such a delight to read.

The first thing I ever cooked was the potato salad recipe in the Helen Gurley Brown’s Single Girls cookbook. It’s the same recipe I use today, 50 years later.

Now teaching someone, I’d give them a version of whatever it is they’d most like to make. Grilled toasted sandwiches are always a good start. Once you get it

I do love the plain no sugar added Familia Swiss Muesli so much. I’d mix it up with yogurt the night before. Hate sweet cereal.

I love this idea.  I hate people staring at their phones when you’re out socially.  Like, why am I even there, you know?

I make a lovely summer drink with peach liqueur. A glass with some ice and a moderately decent dry white wine. 2/3 white wine, 1/3 seltzer.  Add btwn 1 tsp to 1 tbs peach liquor. It is wonderful. Low booze, totally refreshing on a hot summer day.

Well, he’s butt-hurt because Fredo is implying weak and untrustworthy. I live in NYC, surrounded by NYC Italians. Yes, Fredo is offensive, but not because of the Italian part, it’s because of the weak and untrustworthy part.

I do not know how to drive, not even a little bit. I am over 60 years old. I never lived where you really needed a car. Then moved to NYC in the 70's which ran the death knell to my even bothering to try. I very much regret having made that choice.

Counterpoint. Maybe like an over-easy without flipping. In a non stick skillet, add plenty butter over a high heat. Add a couple of eggs, cover the skillet, let cook 45 seconds or so. Take off the heat and let it sit for a couple of minutes. You get perfectly cooked white with absolutely no icky parts, a gloriously

I always try and just tip cash. I know certain companies five the delivery people the full tip and those are the companies I most use. That said, when Amazon Now brings my Whole Food order, it’s zero on the order, $10 cash. These guys hussle. They deserve every cent they get. There are exceptions, always, (the

I also really loved Blood of Heroes. Must have seen it 10 times over the years, but no one comes close to Roy Batty.

I always had cats and very rarely had the morning yowling for food problem. Basically, I didn’t feed until just before leaving the house for work, or at the very least, waiting a couple hours. The wake her up/food connection never allowed to grow.

Soup.  All kinds of cold soup.  I’m not talking about soup meant to be cold, like gazpacho, I’m talking hot soup, now cold.  I generally prefer it to its hot cousin.  My only exception is heavily meaty soups because they get a little aspicky, but outside of that, I will eat any made for hot soup right out of the

Ummm, I’ve been folding that way forever, at least when I packed to go anywhere. I don’t think she’s ever taken the actual credit for something my dad taught me how to do 50 years ago.  I think it’s more about the sparking joy crap.

Mayo and Potato, definitely, but I’m not seeing any HB eggs in there, so said mayo/potato salad is clearly inferior. Potato salad needs some hard boiled eggs.

Regarding Sephora - it’s also age. I tried their stores twice, years ago, when I was not nearly as old as I am now. I was clearly too old to be cool enough to be a customer. I couldn’t even get anyone to wait on me, let alone show me brilliant makeup tips to help hide the crows feet. I haven’t been in one since, nor

These choices are all well and good, but the ultimate, bestest topping for ice cream, especially vanilla, is maple syrup and just a tiny bit of rum.  It blows away all other competition.

Exactly. Yes. If I’m at home, it’s always with chopsticks.

I’m lucky, I guess. My company has an actual set lunch time for the office, which we sort of follow, but not really. I always take an hour, unless totally swamped. You work better that way. Doesn’t necessarily mean I leave the office, but at the very least, the door is shut and I’m on the internet, watching tv, eating

I have learned a new thing!  I remember being told by a cheese monger many years ago that goat and sheep cheese didn’t have lactose, so were perfectly fine to eat it one had an intolerance.  A piece of news I happily shared with anyone with that issue.  So I read this and was about to post a snippy “why not just go

Cooking for myself is how I learned to cook. I was terrible. I made a point of making three things a week that could be used throughout the week for lunches, dinners, etc. It was initially awful and then became great fun, and soothing. I once spent a solid year working on soups and bread, months mastering (as much as
