That is true for nearly all corporations. Pricing is based on what the public will accept, not what is needed for operation. That goes for both employee wages and cost of products. That is also what makes unions vital to the work force. 

This why I feel like Citizens United is the single worst SCOTUS ruling since the one where they approved the Japanese internment camps. Since it basically has resulted in unlimited legal, dark money in politics, it may be another of the terrible decisions that takes 80 years to get overturned, if it ever does.
