What's particularly disturbing for me, as a foreigner in a foreign land, is that this statement is intended to make Americans feel OK about the program, and that any who are gullible enough to believe it likely will.

I did (I had to see as many of those baby-pics as possible, for maximum heartsplosion)! :) His other stuff is pretty cool, as well.
My heart just exploded, too! Can you imagine all the fun stories — based on the pictures — you could tell the kid when they're a little older??
When you're the 'norm' or 'default', you don't need to think about anything, and there's no reason you'd be specifically 'aware' of your 'status'. You're just going along, doing your do. No one's going to say "I think he might be a heterosexual!", and there's no reason for you to think "I think I might be…
Thanks for responding to me — I think it's great that you take the time & make the effort to engage with the commenters.
With respect, it seems that it is you who is conflating two separate issues: The desire of a large number of citizens to have food containing GMOs to be labelled as such, and the sanction or condemnation of the technology as a whole.
Just to agree and expand on FlarfenFoofenoogan's suggestions (international versions), there are often UK, Australian, Kiwi, and Canadian versions of the most popular US contest-type shows. If you're ethically OK with torrenting stuff, try just searching for those shows with the suffixes (ie. Top Chef UK/AU/NZ/CA). …
That's an interesting way of looking at it. I'm a big fan of radiolab, but haven't been keeping up this past year. I'll have to go get the last few — hopefully one of them is the episode you remember!

It is definitely bizarre (for me) to think that someone born in '85 could even be an adult!
Heh heh — I tried shaving it all off once (I'm a man), and after my girlfriend & I were done laughing, she kindly asked me never to do it again — and I was more than happy to oblige :)
That's hilarious — I don't think I'll google it 'cause it can't possibly be as funny as the dance I'm picturing in my head right now!
My most serious / long-term / whatever GF was like this too (and the feeling was mutual) — as far as she was concerned, there wasn't any scent better than me & my wool shirt after a few (deodorant-free) days of campfires, wood-chopping, hiking, and lake-bathing.
My Discovery Channel level-of-understanding, and off the top of my head (so double-google before repeating any of this as fact, and by all means correct me if you know better!) is that pits & groin areas exude these little fatty globules, imbued with all sorts of yummy pheromones. Hair acts as a distribution network,…
If only I could zoom the annotated area in, I'm sure I could make some sort of lewd joke.
The definition of celibacy actually isn't just abstaining from sex: it's traditionally sex & marriage both — or in more modern terms, sex & romantic relationships in general. In french a 'celibataire' just means a single person.
Somebody had a post recently in one of the sub-sites asking for men to be brutally honest about what physical features or 'flaws' they find unattractive on a woman. I posted two replies, and in one of them I did use the "confidence is sexy" line — and I've been thinking critically about it since.
Got into a good discussion over on Gawker a while back about just this — distinguishing between two very different types of people who might nevertheless both look like 'hipsters'... sooo here's a link if you're interested :)
My understanding of dramatic irony specifically was when the audience (or reader) knew from the text (not just because they've seen/read the piece before) more than a given character about a given situation — and generally a situation that the unwitting character is discussing/contemplating... Crude example:
I think you make a fair, strong argument for your position on primary responsibility in the first paragraph (even if I'm not sure I agree with it), but I have to take issue with the second paragraph of your comment.
