That’s what I love about John Carpenter, man.

He is living his best life, collecting those checks and playing video games

perfect, it’s nice knowing the arc will play out with a plan, I hope it ends with Frank and Gerri fucking the whole family over.

Perfect, I’d rather they not keep reiterating it, and that the series have an overarching plot, rather then it going on forever and becoming a Grey’s anatomy.

John Carpenter is just the fucking best.

I think I need to see more of Cho Spike before I judge. I enjoyed this clip. I just think it was a little too fast-paced for me to fully judge. I agree that Spike shouldn’t be played too seriously. He could be aloof and introspective, but he could also be slightly childish, especially when it came to food (I.e. his

Mustafa Shakir has been the only one, so far, to really capture the essence of his anime counterpart. Gruff, exasperated, but nevertheless, still kind and fatherly to what are ostensibly his wards (which now gives him a weird dynamic with Cho’s Spike, who in the anime is a decade younger than Jet, but in the

I have seen not one minute of original Cowboy Bebop, but I am going to be watching the shit out of this because it looks delightful. I am also so happy to see John Cho get a lead role. He’s one of those actors I always, always want to see more of. And this is an extremely clever trailer.

never seen cowboy bebop but i LOVE the idea of filming special stuff just for a trailer, and this was a good trailer.

I don’t think it’s trying to imply that. It’s not that people come to the anime looking for a silly show. It’s that when the show IS being silly, the fans enjoy it.

OK that was fun. I got incredibly nervous after watching the openings they released. But this makes me feel better and does a better job communicating the vibe of the show.

I feel like this is likely to suck, and I shouldn’t let myself get excited for it... But dammit I’m excited for this!

I know this isn’t really a reasonable thing to say, but one thing I kind of noticed is that John Cho’s face while he was fighting was basically the kind of face people actually make while they’re fighting, which is to say intense and focused.  It stuck out to me because (I feel like) in the anime Spike is often

Like that it’s an adaptation that’s done in a different time by different people, and is going to be its own thing, not a carbon copy of the original? But as I recall, Faye was quite capable of cooperating with the guys when needed in the original anime, as well.

I don’t resent it, I just feel it’s being overused as a cheat to make your product look more “artsy” than it deserves.

Where it is used thematically it can be a very powerful visual aid such as in the Tarentino “Grindhouse” two-parter.

Where it comes off as trite and hackneyed - Star Wars Visions.

eeeeh...Bebop was definitely meta.  It paid a shit ton of homage to noir and hardboiled hong kong action films.

That opening shot has stronger Bebop vibes than the actual redone opening they’ve done. That recaptures the actual energy of the opening you want while adapting it to what can work for that in live-action.

I mean, if it feels off to you, it feels off to you, but I don’t know where you’re coming from with the specific Faye critique? She spent the entire teaser giving them shit. Seems on point to me.

Faye seems like a completely new character (I don’t mean the outfit). I think it’s her seeming so buddy buddy with Jet and Spike that feels so off. I don’t know, something about this show just feels off.
