Tthat’s because the smile never reaches the muscles around their eyes, and were you to cover up half of the picture (vertically), you would never be able to guess what the other half of the pic is showing.

Some of it, too, can be that the pattern making software usually only lets you do a specific number of sizes per piece—so if a company starts with a 00/Xsmall, by the time you hit the plus sizes, they have to draft up an entirely *new* pattern (you can only nest 6-8 sizes.

Yep, this is one of the reasons I ADORED McQueen.

That’s because most companies use a patterning system that simply “sizes up” the garments when they get bigger, and then don’t have an experienced patternmaker go back in & doublecheck/fix what needs to be fixed in the markets (industry term for patterns).
