That’s because most companies use a patterning system that simply “sizes up” the garments when they get bigger, and then don’t have an experienced patternmaker go back in & doublecheck/fix what needs to be fixed in the markets (industry term for patterns).

As someone who used to be in a branch of the industry (performance wear—things like Danceline/dance team, skatewear, and collegiate & pro-level cheerleading uniforms), the problem that I often saw from “designers” at the companies I worked for was that OFTEN,the designers had no/very little garment construction/sewing

If you’re the sort of person who doesn’t mind (or even likes!) hospitals, I’d HIGHLY recommend it!

To volunteer at a children’s hospital, the process is actually pretty intense. First you have to apply & do an interview, & background checks. Next you go in and do a multi-hour training. Lastly, you need to provide all your immunization records, and take Hepatitis & TB tests, to make sure you aren’t a latent carrier.

I can tell you that at Children’s Minnesota hospitals, they DO prioritize volunteers for exactly those kiddos😉
