You know, with a name like yours, I think you should be automatically disqualified from commenting about anything related to Asian American issues. WTF.

I know many white men who have those attitudes as well. I think this article does a great job of showing how the way Asian men are specifically oppressed plays into certain attitudes they may develop towards women, but most Asian men I know personally are progressive, thoughtful people. I know plenty of Asian women as

If you have to do or say something racist, to point out something racist, maybe you should re-examine the point you're trying to make. But who am I kidding? Of COURSE Jezebel thinks "it's satire" is a valid excuse for racism. Again.

This is very old. Don't you guys check these things before hitting publish?

Plus, they're not really "hiding" if they're posing for pictures. But I guess it's easier to sell this story to jezebel readers if it's framed as "those sad, brainwashed ladies", and not "they saved a lot of money and spent it on shit they wanted."

You assumed incorrectly. There are a lot of close cultural and historical links between the regions. I am not saying both regions have the same culture, but if you go to those places you can see pretty clearly that its a spectrum. Ethnic groups in Pakistan share a lot of cultural similarities to those in North India.

I think it's fucked up to make the children re-live these insults, and hold up signs for the whole internet to see. It's not THEIR fault that people say awful things to them. It seems like they're being punished by holding up signs with mean thing about them.

So I'm Chinese but I had a similar reaction when I first saw Alek Wek on the runway as a kid. I used to watch runway shows in the middle of the night in middle school and when I first saw her I was all, "Who is that?! I love how dark she is. And her short hair!" And I always liked seeing darker Asians in TV or movies

Well I guess now we know who the non-blacks in the convo are: the ones who laugh and steer it away from the issue of beautiful black women and make it about a 136 horse book. Hilarious.

I was just shocked that Jezzie runs the fashion week diversity issue every year and people like you still come into the discussion with a very basic understanding of the situation, asking the same question. I'm glad you learned something though.

Actually there are approximately half million ethnic Koreans living in a few former Soviet countries including Russia. They're descendants of ethnic Koreans who moved to the Russian far east region in late 19th century and were forcibly relocated to Central Asia by the Soviet government in the 1930's. So there are

Oddly it isn't exactly unheard of to be an ethnic Korean in Russia, there are about 150,000 Ethnic Koreans living in Russia many of which are Russian citizens.

So this turned out to be an interesting story, but there is something remarkably racist and hypocritical for a Gawker Media site to engage in the "BUT HE DON'T LOOK LIKE A REAL ____ " dynamic.

I love puppies, but I used to work in the sex crimes and child abuse unit in the same county at the same courthouse, and I never once saw protesters show up to protest against a defendant in a case I worked on. Just saying.

He struggled with alcoholism, as his parents had. He dropped out of acting after Degrassi and sort of drifted around. The alcoholism aggravated his type 1 diabetes, and he died of a heart attack.

Do we really need to argue about which minorities have been oppressed THE MOST? The internment camps that isner-mahut were referring to were on US soil, where they rounded up Japanese-Americans and took them from their homes solely based on their appearance and/or country of descent. Not to mention that the

I'm Asian American and found her performance to be racist and tacky, even if I wasn't offended because she's so dumb. It doesn't matter what people in Japan think - the concept of appropriation abroad is not the same as it is here. I can't speak for Asians as a whole, but I feel like Western culture, along with its

As a male of Asian descent, I generally give some leeway regarding racism or cultural ignorance, as a lot of people don't truly know or understand racism and/or haven't been truly exposed to other cultures through means other than the Internet or pop culture. In this case, I have to say that I doubt Katy intended to

I've seen comments of people dismissing this as not a real problem, like "oh, be glad SOMEBODY likes you." This upsets me.
I lived in Asia when I was 20-21. It fucked me up. Most of the foreigner guys I knew had weird fetishes...and they'd tell me about it all the time. They were really in their element and surrounded

Yes, but what does it say about the quality of those messages? (Speaking as an Asian woman who has been on several online dating sites, yes I've received a crapton of messages, but rarely any that made me want to reply back to the person.) (But maybe that's because I live in Brooklyn and am too picky.)
