Bullshit. I’m sorry, but that is complete bullshit.
Bullshit. I’m sorry, but that is complete bullshit.
Try digging a tunnel in something more challenging than soft dirt and see how the price *doesn’t* come down. For example Boston’s Big Dig where they had to literally freeze parts of the ground to make dams so the half-built tunnels wouldn’t flood, and work around hundreds of years of buried infrastructure AND a couple…
Is he denying that expanded road capacity induces additional traffic?? Good god.
Add a side of pregnant spiders too please.
All of that is more BS.
how does any of that solve the problem of a tunnel fire? BEV vehicles are far more flammable and individual cars in tunnels have the same problem of cars on streets in terms of traffic, so congestion will still be a problem. Scalability is also a myth due to the practical matter of tunneling under buildings.
Building tunnels to put electric cars through them is a bad idea, because just putting a train in there would increase throughput and obviate the risk of hard-to extinguish lithium battery fires in a tunnel. Just build more trains, it’s cheaper and more environmentally friendly than turning the ground below cities…
We can already build 6 lane tunnels though. What’s the innovation, that only Tesla owners get to use them?
No, the track is not motorized. There are just teslas moving under their own power.
It’s an underground guided busway... but with teslas.
Lol. You will likely be locked in the vehicle for your safety as well.
The “autonomous” part is pretty meaningless in a tube with only one way to go. That’s like saying a roller coaster is really profound because it’s “automated” to go around on the track.
What is special is how Tesla/The Boring Company is working to drastically reduce the time and money it takes to build the tunnels.
Underground high speed rail might be a little closer. High speed Level 4/5 in a purposely constructed tunnel is trivial. All the variables are controlled.
Being stuck in a one lane tunnel behind an accident, with no easy exits, gives me anxiety just thinking about it.
It’s not driving in a tunnel. It’s hooked up to a motorized track. It’s a fucking subway train. Nothing profound about that.
Because it’s the D.C. Metro, only it goes nowhere useful and you brought your own train. Nothing involved here except for the car itself is remotely revolutionary, and I can take that out of the picture by riding through on a bicycle.
Well, he’s not wrong about homeopathy...
Excuse me if I’m wrong, but I thought the entire point of driving a car in a tunnel was to rev the engine and see how much noise you could make. Using an electric car if kind of self-defeating.
You’re doing it wrong Jason. Go smoke a blunt with Joe Rogan and then examine how profound a Tesla in a tunnel is.
