I think the problem with spectre is that its climax kind of feels like an abstract mess. Blofeld has an incredibly evil plan to do...something. He wants the nine eyes merger to happen? That will let him do...evil? I think? With Andrew Lincoln as his partner or whatever?

A prequel is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct.

Spectre was ultimately a letdown, but it did have a lot going for it. Mendes’ visual flourishes were pretty underrated - e.g. the entire room of Spectre techs who’ve been trained to creepily stand up on cue.
