That's the thing. To them, conception, pregnancy, and childbirth are this beautiful thing that always "works out in the end." So they can rationalize these kind of draconian laws that assume the worst about the mother, and would never, ever be allowed in the case of say, them being able to make decisions with their

It’s Latin, which also makes no sense. I thought Catholics were on the outs in Gilead?

Eh, it’s not about being obsessed or not obsessed as much as they’re a media company and live on clicks. Maybe “pretended they could leave easy money from Kardashian coverage on the table” is a better way to say it?

Idk, the reaction to Aunt Lydia made sense to me. The wives and commanders don’t like the aunts, as a class. Aunt Lydia especially they don’t like, and they don’t like being reminded so publicly the brutality that’s used to keep the handmaids in line.

I don’t get it, either. She’s not only potentially fertile, she’s a young person. Under-18's seem like a scarce resource in Gilead, so why would they just squander this one?

Obviously she should be harassed, but what she did was super rude. Talking over anyone you don’t know is rude, doesn’t matter if it’s a friend, sister or wife of the person you’re talking to.

That is an interesting point, actually. If personhood begins when the embryo is four weeks, why doesn’t child support begin at birth?

Part of it seems to be that they’re trained to escalate everything immediately to 11. It’s racism, absolutely, but it’s also immediately escalating things to this really intense physical arrest that puts the person (rightly) into a fight or flight response.

She probably was pregnant, but if she wasn’t, what of it? She was in a fight for her life. If someone was trying to kill me, I might tell them I was pregnant, because maybe they wouldn’t kill a pregnant woman? It’s worth a shot.  Obviously it didn’t dissuade this guy at all.

It bothers me when people eat anything more than a snack on transit too. But agreed, the proper response to this is, if anything, is to be silently pissed about it. Anything more is really inappropriate.

How could you possibly know that the women giving you dirty looks were “overprivileged 9-5 mummies with paid help”? Did they have their children and paid help with them, or something?

You’re right, it’s so weird that women insist on having more than one kid before solving a deeply entrenched social issue in our culture. How crazy!

I mean, part of the problem is that he rose to prominence in his early twenties doing basically a version of “the nastiest College Republican”, and it hasn’t aged well, as we can see in this clip of him at 36.

If you read the post, you’d see that she wrote that all of this would probably really appeal to a certain type of white liberal.

Also, most private schools pay even worse than public ones.  It’s crazy.

Good for you. My husband’s entire childhood, his Dad lived in a really cool neighborhood in the city four days a week while his mom was home with him and his siblings in the country, three hours away. And even now, man does it show. Imagine having kids and being able to live basically like a bachelor four days a week.

Lol, I can’t tell if you’re trying to be funny or not?

It’s even worse when you consider that Charles didn’t want to marry Diana and was basically forced into it. It was an idiotic match from the start. Not saying he wasn’t a total dick to Diana, but now that he’s with Camilla, they’re really happy with each other.

Yeah, I mean in terms of economy, it’s such good value. I inherited hand me downs from friends, and even shirts from my older brother, and no one cared.

Yeah, I had kind of the same experience with uniforms. It’s probably an unpopular opinion around here, but there are so many more and better ways to express yourself as a kid or teen than through your clothes. Forcing everyone to wear the same shitty, uncool uniform is a huge equalizer, and made things a lot easier
