Yikes, this made my point. You could just be of an older generation than I was assuming (apologies if so, that wasn’t the tone of your writing), but if that isn’t the case, holy cow, your textbooks were...well, they were really bad. “...ran out of time around Nixon” is bordering on incompetence if your classes / books

I’ve played your silly game long enough. You had a agenda before we even started this conversation. And many of the people here are smart enough to see what that agenda was from the beginning.

Had I argued for covering botanists at the expense of folk like Malcom X, I can see the merits of this argument. As I did not, it is your argument is ludicrous.

One of things that stick out to me, particularly regarding the violence in Game of Thrones, was that the writers seemingly pride themselves on making “bold choices” but at the end of the day, they shirk away from particular violence towards men (i.e. we never see male characters get raped) or other elements like Sansa

Is there a particular female screenwriter who seems to enjoy writing gratuitous violence against men into her movies that you’re referencing?

Are the “babes with guns” pictorials in gun magazines supposed to cater to the violent female gaze?

Where’s the female version of ISIS tho?

One of the many things I loved so much about Alias Grace was the manner in which it unapologetically indicted the story’s “nice guys” as complicit in her abuse by showing so clearly how they got off on her narrative of endless trauma.

I think we need to hit these people in the wallet. I refuse to watch films or series that depict violence against women, particularly rape. Waiting for the old male guard to change their stance and make room for women - I wouldn’t hold my breath. Let’s not give the violent male gaze money. Let’s put our money where

ALSO, but not featured in this study as far as I know (no time to click/read): girls with bad behavior are judged WAY more harshly than boys with the same behaviors.

grew up there and I had a bolo tie with turquoise on it once and I wore it a few times in the 80's but the look just never suited me. Much more Albuquerque to be in an IRON MAIDEN t-shirt

This guy’s been posting this same hot take all over the comments. He’s just emotional that he did badly in school.

You keep saying there’s a “ton” of studies, but so far, you’ve posted like one study and some articles that reference the study you’ve already posted.

I just can’t fathom what goes on in someones mind that makes them tell someone else that their presence devalues everyone else’s work. It just blows my mind.

No one said they are. They said that men and women with the same grade average were asked about their perceptions of their own intelligence. And men tended to think they were more intelligent than women tended to think they were. Headline is deceptive, yes, but the article is not saying grades are the measure of

But it’s not about who is smarter. It is about how men and women of the same grade point average perceive their smarts. Someone up thread said the title is deceptive and that’s a fair point. But this is not the point of the study, that women get better grades. The point of the study is that when grades are equal men

As a woman in STEM, I can verify. For example, I remember as an undergraduate being told by another student that I had gotten a better grade than him because I had large breasts. More that 20 years later, I still have douchey boys just out of college think that they can tell me how to do my job or that I shouldn’t be

But they don’t come here for the people. They don’t really come here for the land. That’s something that really bothers me. They got off the plane, get in the rental car, drive around, consume, consume, consume, then they take off. And they don’t do anything to recognize the people who have lived here and who still

Yeah. When I was in college, a guy in my class told me (to my face) that I got a job offer we had both interviewed for because “they were looking for girls.”

Oblivious rich people are going to fuck up any local culture no matter where it is. I think after the first period of actual Manifest Destiny this comes as no surprise.
