There’s a real tendency to have Native people show up in mainstream media only in opposition to something else, ususally something that’s being positioned as mainstream. Edit to add: this is a fault of the mainstream media, not Native people.
No kidding. A woman I grew up with had one of those touch-and-go births where they very nearly lost both her and the baby. That’s the kind of situation where you want to be able to refer to the document - that and not getting the professional photos and whatnot.
