I went to a medical museum that had a room of preserved specimens. One was a gangrenous uterus, with a gangrenous fetus in situ. Horrified, I asked the guide how on earth a uterus becomes gangrenous. Amateur abortion, she said simply. Never again.

It truly is. And the picture is so complicated, like—we don’t want to disrespect her memory and her family with that picture, but at the same time, people NEED to see that this has very real consequences for women.

Yeah, trials (especially contested ones) are expensive - and emotionally draining. It may be that some of the victims families are relieved this is coming to a close.
