Yeah I was talking to a friend of mine who is a big musicals fan and I asked her if she planned to see West Side Story and she responded, “not any time soon, if I want to watch it, I can watch the old one for free whenever I want, or listen to any of the various cast recordings.” I hadn’t really considered that, but

I’m not at all a Wachowski(s) fan, but I love both Mitchell’s and Hemon’s fiction. Dammit. I’m tempted.

Hmmmm, I guess I’ll go see The Novice. I’d somehow missed it.

I’m surprised to find several in her using it as a term for a certain kind of horror movie with such certainty. I’ve never heard that meaning before. To me it’s a studio that makes splashy indies with awards heat. If you look at the lineup for the Independent Spirit Awards for the past five to seven years, it’ll be

Sigh. That’s a bummer.

I hope you’re feeling better!

The same thing happened to me, hence the name change. I was greyed for a long, long time, and then suddenly wasn’t. Not looking a gift horse so on and so forth.

I haven’t seen it yet! I know! I know! But I had to prioritize Dune.

That’s fair. I thought the action sequences were fine, but they certainly weren’t Fury Road or Dune.

Also, thanks! I struggle with Kinja, lots of log-in problems and the like, so I’m not around often. But it seems to be behaving slightly better this past week? Maybe?

Fuck it, I kinda liked The Box. I can admit that.

I didn’t think The Old Guard was a drag at all. I thought it was a blast.

Why the fuck is David Fincher commenting on a child actor’s likelihood of paparazzi coverage? That’s gross.

I logged into Kinja for the first time in almost two years to represent my love of American Ultra. Max Landis is the worst kind of tool, but that film is a ton of fun.

I think it was less that they were too cool for it and more that they were fucking terrified of their own fans.

I really don’t give a shit about seeing Apu, since I haven’t watched the show in a decade. But it would feel vindictive on the show’s part to me if the it killed him off in response to people (rightfully) critiquing their depiction.

I think it’s the right call, but I hope they don’t kill off Apu. Can’t he just move to another town or something?

I paid very close attention. It is a poorly written film. Thuddingly plotted. Bad dialogue. Idiotic narrative. I don’t think it’s dangerous. People who said that are morons. It is far too bland and dull to be anything but completely forgettable.

It actually does find fresh ways to engage with the text and it is significantly better than previous adaptations. (I say this as someone who never even liked Little Women before.)

I just think it’s a bad movie. I don’t think it’s a dangerous one. It’s way too stupid to be dangerous. I also don’t give a shit who likes it. Good for anyone who does. Enjoy!

What is wrong with you? Why are you going after Paul so aggressively? He was OBVIOUSLY being funny. And not wound up. And not passive-aggressive.

It’s super interested in saying how awful the world is to sad people ... unless you’re a little person, then it thinks it’s funny to be awful to you.
