The name may rock - I’m not so sure about what it does.

That was me. All of the characters fit perfectly for me due to that.

The new one has a decidedly cylon feel too it, but I do love the tail number on the old goofy one.

I commented on this myself but I certainly hope this was intentional. Still cool if it isn’t, though!

Not sure if this was the intention, but I’m loving that the Discovery shares a name with another space shuttle. First shuttle got her name from the Enterprise and the new starship got her name from the shuttle!

I’m sorry, I was on board until I got to Crystal Pepsi. CRYSTAL PEPSI IS AWESOME. The suicide (drinks) at the sleep-overs I attended in 4th grade would have been nothing were it not for Crystal Pepsi!

I know, right?? I didn’t catch it at first, but once I did I had a second reason to overreact like I was 12. TWO doctors in Star Wars!!

That’s what I thought, but I wasn’t completely sure - I was pretty sure he was at some point the Imperial head-of-state but that was about the extent of my knowledge. The lifetime of experience route is exactly what I would’ve hoped with his character.

I really hope that Zahn brings back Pellaeon with the new Thrawn book. IMHO Zahn’s trilogy was so much better than the rest of the EU books because he created believable Imperials, not the typical “evil for the sake of evil” Imperial. How far did the show get before the army stepped in?

Thanks! I’ll be digging into your prior work shortly, I can assure you!

Two questions (and the caveat that I’ve held off on reading the second and third novels until after this discussion):

1) Was there more involved with the Sahel at any point, either in writing or in your mind? If so, would you mind sharing what didn’t end up in the novel?

2) With the various strong women in the novel,

Question for the class: Did the reality show concept feel real to you?

At first blush it seemed somewhat ludicrous, but with more reflection it felt like it could eventually become real. When you consider the prevalence of WW2 combat footage or movies like Restrepo it’s almost surprising that the military-industrial

This was an excellent novel, one that I couldn’t put down until finished. I loved the attention to detail in order to make a future full of as yet uninvented technology feel real (I felt a bizarre thrill when the C-17 made it’s appearance as a somewhat dated transport aircraft - but I’m an aviation nerd). However, I

Stay classy, Toronto!
