its kind of mind boggling that this cheat even existed when the solution appears to have no major downside. and now they don’t even sell any diesels even though the fixed ones pass current emissions test and everyone seems to like them.
if you owned one, you would agree. solid tried and true engines sold internationally in probably millions of vehicles.
had to go through the process of pulling all emissions equipment off to ensure longevity.
The way one of my business professors explained it: maximizing profit is the only goal of every large corporation because when you get that many people in a room, money is the only thing they can all agree on.

I bought a B8.5 Audi S4 right when it came out, the front bumper was damaged in transport (which was part of that mid model refresh, so it was a brand new unique part). it took 6 full months to get a new bumper. where was the outrage and news articles? this type of thing is common.
If you’ve ever operated a fleet of high mileage diesel trucks, the complexity and downtime can only improve imo
