People made fun of W for being a bumbling idiot, myself included, and it only made the insecure Republicans that I know double down on their politics since it reaffirmed their distance from the left. And I used to see something similar play out all the time on the small-scale of the classroom when I was classroom

When you make fun of people for bad grammar, you belittle everyone who has had grammar. Same as when you fat shame someone. Sorry you don’t see it, but it is a problem. And I say this as an English teacher. It’s elitist and hurtful, no matter who it’s aimed at. Make fun of Trump for what he says, not how he says it.

“So, you assume every person who has a tenuous grasp of grammar has a learning disability?”

You’re ungrayed! You get ungrayed when Jezebel or one of their subblogs on Jezebel follows you. If you go over to the Root or Gizmodo, then you need to be ungrayed by their editorial staff by getting “followed.” No one knows how or why they get followed in the first place.

criticize donald trump for his ideas and rhetoric of hate, but not his grammar. that kind of snark is a part of the reason that the right is so anti-intellectual and anti-information now. when people are put down and belittled, they lash out. it alienates people, and it should. it’s pure snobbery.

why sleep with a poor when you can keep all your money AND all your looks?

some people are poorly educated because they’re poor: thus, classism.

yea and thank god they’re super recognizable bc they’re only there so velásquez can humblebrag about hanging out w/ rich friends

we really shouldn’t drag people for bad grammar, even garbage people like paris hilton, because it reinforces classism and ableism

I got re-ungrayed on The Slot last month. I don’t know what I did to deserve it, but maybe go over there and say nice and useful things and hope for the best? But yeah, I’m ungraying comments like crazy whenever I tune in!

Nah

I almost NEVER prefer a recast—I find it too jarring/disruptive to my suspension of disbelief. But in this case I think the importance of the correction would outweigh the usual objections. I think they should recast Maura and apologize. Not just because Tambor is an awful person who harmed real trans women, but

The reason for change isn’t up for debate: it is good and just that Tambor go. I’m only asking how people would feel about replacing versus just writing her out of the script and focusing on the trans characters already portrayed by trans actors like she suggests. At any rate, it sounds like Solloway wants to do the

“White feminism” refers to those moments, which are many, where white feminists throw women of color under the bus or simply don’t fight for their equality in the same ways or even address their structural inequality. I wouldn’t get mad at the term so much as the white women who make this term so relevant. Not every

I don’t think the science of them matters more than the fact that the person waited six years and then sat down for one. At least, not as far as I meant my comment to read, but I get what you’re saying.

Honestly, how do we feel about that approach? A lot of people don’t like the idea of subbing out actors for characters when the show is already several seasons underway, though it’s the simplest solution. Does seeing another actor portray the same character bother you guys or not?

No, it’s not wrong of you. It’s an extremely valid concern since crimes against trans women are not taken as seriously by law enforcement and not covered as widely by the media. It’s already an uphill battle to get society to “care” about the welfare of the trans population, and in this case you have to do so at the

Maura’s selfishness and, at time, downright unlikability is an important aspect of the show, but yeah...I wouldn’t miss her if they wrote her off and carried on. Obviously I like many people would have vastly preferred for her character to have been portrayed by a trans woman in the first place but, since this is

Nah, that kid is pretty cute. Or was the last time I checked in. She’s probably in college now, isn’t she?
