Most good editors don’t care what you use and will add delete the correct amount of whitespace. tab key adds two spaces to a new line and a return after a line with text will add the correct amount of indentation... in spaces. Backspace will delete the correct amount of whitespace.

what editor do you use? Atom doesn’t care which and will insert the correct number and type that you want when you press the tab key. Since I write javascript, I use two space indentation (because curly braces make it go up so fast)
