This comment seems much more reasonable and I don't disagree with anything you wrote. That said, regardless of whatever worst-case scenarios we can imagine, I think we have an obligation to judge every decision on its own merits and not in light of what it might lead to.

We have certain rights, but many of those rights can be forfeited. For example, if you commit a felony, you forfeit your right to vote. If you're convicted as a sex offender, you forfeit your right to work with children.
