@Covertghost: I had to give someone with a volvo wagon a jump start once. After hunting around under the hood for a solid ten minutes, we discovered the battery... in the trunk.

One thing I forgot to mention about working under any Range Rover- Air suspension! Just put it up to "high" profile (or buy an EAS module to manually access the "extended" profile) and boom! tons upon tons of clearance underneath. Just remember to open the tailgate and/or pull the EAS timer module out, or else it

The brake accumulator on a p38 range rover. Easily accessible, tons of clearance, screws off with minimal force from an oil filter wrench and is replaced with a new one quite literally like changing a light bulb. Don't even need to bleed the brakes.

Did anyone else find themselves breathing a little more heavily when they were at altitude?

@verdegrrl: Indeed. Presumably its so you can clamber in and out of the windows when you get stuck offroading and the doors are either wedged between tree trunks or three feet deep in mud.

My old 97 range rover has the biggest windows and the biggest sunroof of any car in my driveway. Add to that the window sills- which are at absolutely perfect height for elbow-hanging (unlike nearly every ultra-high belt line car these days; my Dad's MKS being the worst offender ever), and the 11 speaker HK stereo and

@Murilee Martin: Murilee- if it means that you can keep giving us awesome DOTS posts each weekend, I hereby give you the right (that I have no power to impart or manage) to trundle around town as slowly as you please. Here in NJ the classic and odd cars get garaged for the winter, so its a treat to check out what you

@FTGDWolverineEdition'09: The trouble would be when it came time to buy your car, and you had to wander around their warehouse for hours, looking for aisle 14 bin 36 that was supposed to contain your steering wheel but instead contains a saab headlight.

My entire dorm room. Note the bear rug head.

@TriShield: Good point. Saabs aren't nearly as fun and quirky these days.

So what you're saying is, I can get a 9-5 aero from dealer stock for super cheap now?

@MaWeiTao: That and those trucks don't exactly stop on a dime, especially when the roads are snow covered.

@dculberson: I've never ridden in the back of mine, but I've also never heard much complaining from the peanut gallery when I drive with people in back. It doesn't seem too awful... 1997 p38a 4.0 SE btw...

@Desu-San-Desu: They already did, three seasons ago, during the competition with D-motor (the German car show) My records show it is episode 11x06. Granted, not a "road test" per se but still pretty cool.

Taking the dash apart in my 97 range rover is always easy. Since LR up to the days of ford ownership didn't understand what a "clip" was, everything is held together with various sizes of phillips head screws. Most of them are either completely visible all the time or covered by somewhat-trim-matching plastic caps.
