I can see how someone can find it unfunny, unoriginal, even a bit immature. I just think getting outraged over it is pretty silly. I have an offbeat name myself and you just get used to people not understanding it at first. Every time I introduce myself, I expect the person to say something like “What? Hmm.

Oh, hi. So nice of you to chime in with your typical unreasonably angry/hostile response. Enjoy the rest of your day because your bitter Kinja bullshit isn’t going to ruin mine.

Yeah, it’s not a surprise for a comedian to joke about racial stuff. I wouldn’t call Kimmel the most gifted comic, though, so maybe it was all in his delivery. Like, with that joke about “black people saved NASA and white people saved jazz”, I guess the humor was meant to be exactly what you said. Maybe it was about

The job of Oscar host is always a thankless one. Every year, it seems like the host receives a barrage of criticism and judgment. It’s like no one is good enough. The only recent host I can think of who emerged relatively unscathed was Ellen a few years ago and even she had complaints that she was “bland” or “played

Mr. Beatty is still on top of his petty game. I see you, Warren.

“I know that’s the only way she’d ever get on camera at the Oscars, but that’s no reason to punish us”

“There’s Nothing To Love and It’s a Disaster Folks: The Biography of Donald Trump”

Laverne is a pretty awful actress. There are scenes of hers in OITNB that make me cringe. I know we root for her because she’s trans but come on. She is just not good. I think she’s gotten some great exposure from Orange and she needs to just parlay that into activism.

Yeah, I think either of them just could’ve said, “Oh, I’m sorry, everyone. This isn’t the right card” and saved everyone a lot of confusion. The show was going to be derailed, either way. So, it’d be better to, at least, keep things somewhat on track.

Yeah, I get it. She’s definitely never been a household name, unlike Nicki or Missy. That song came out when I was in high school and that’s when I listened to hip-hop a lot (now, I’m generally just not into it). But, she hasn’t been on my radar since. So, I can understand how many people are like, “Who?” Even my

She’s basically an underground rapper. She got a bit fame after being on that Fat Joe song “Lean Back” in 2004 and had a couple of other well-known songs a while after that. But, she’s never been super-popular or anything. She was also in prison for several years, so that took her out of the public eye. Apparently,

“and remains unreasonably beautiful.”

Haha I know it does. I’m becoming an Old and I’m accepting it.

I’m Team No One on this whole beef. I liked Conceited and Lean Back when I was in high school (which was actually the last time I really actively enjoyed hip-hop) and Nicki had a few great songs/verses in the beginning of her career. But, I don’t see either of them as the “queen.”

Isn’t it? Such a tour de force; the performances, the dialogue, everything.

She’s one of my all-time favorite actresses. I’ve only seen bits and pieces of Holy Smoke. I much prefer her work pre-Oscar win, though. She was consistently making really interesting choices in material. She was great in Steve Jobs but her selection in the past few years has been hit or miss (that Divergent series,

Anything by Roald Dahl. I related a lot to Matilda for various reasons. One thing that stuck with me is that adults are not always right and that I could use my own reasoning instead of being told what to think. That was a great message for me because I was a very independent-minded, questioning child and that was

Edit: One of the nominees, an Iranian director, was blocked from coming because of the travel ban. I thought, since the court case, that he may be able to come but it looks like he is either still blocked or skipping the show. But, yeah, you know someone is going to say something.

Lay me down tonight with my Russians and pearls.

I’m rooting for Viola and I know she’s a sure thing. But I don’t care about anything else, especially with Amy getting so terribly snubbed for Arrival. This is the first time in years where I’m just not invested. I still need to see Moonlight and I’m sure it’s great. But, I haven’t seen any of the other contenders
