I don’t discount the role of #2 whatsoever (see: salty reaction of white people to n-word inclusion), but I think a lot of people are (inexplicably) missing the point when it comes to why the jokes didn’t “land.”

This! SO MUCH.
A blog called My Vegan Journal was very unhappy: “After being vegetarian for over 40 years, they’ve now decided to kill the animals on their farm, package them up, and eat their bits and pieces.”
How do you know when someone is a vegan?
I’m guessing one reason black people issues get talked about the most in the U.S. is because they were forcibly mass imported and therefore now there are more of them here than any other minority. That is a sucky way to have gotten to #2 biggest ethnicity here. I’d rather have been banned until 1960.
I don't like the comments I'm reading on here. Yea they ran from the cops, but basically saying because they ran from the cops they deserved to die is just as wrong as them running from the cops. They may have been bad apples but they still should have survived to be held accountable for their actions.
THANK YOU.
I agree that allies are important, and that Asians for black lives is important.
Remember when the guy hissed at the protestor during that Clinton rally? I mean, an actual hiss! Amazing.
people hate being interrupted and inconvenienced. I mean, they may also hate black people, but PETA and Greenpeace and ACT UP all got treated terribly as well. It’s the life of an activist. If a candidate for President embraces you, you’re probably doing something that doesn’t need doing.
You said it. I think a lot of our “liberal allies” think black problems are over and we are just complaining when in reality America never really addressed our issues. For example, white feminism is really big now and a lot of my white female “super liberal” friends tell me I would never understand what they go…
Yes exactly! She’s not from the US and you just can’t know everything about everything, so I can excuse not being informed. But not being informed and speaking as if you know shit....no
I feel like MIA’s statement is just a subset of #alllivesmatter. At this point there are plenty of sources/statements out there about the movement that she could use to educate herself on why it’s called BLM and what they’re fighting for.
Like I didn’t realize that playing the deaths of people who look like me in a loop on national tv constituted a privilege.
Yeah, I think in America, people tend to think of “racial issues” as concerning white people’s racism against black people. And because that’s the kind of racism that tends to get thought about and talked about most (even though it’s still not talked about nearly enough), I think that probably causes some misplaced…
We just get lip service in the hope that we will pipe down and go away. Nobody really wants to discuss the plight of blacks in this country because that would mean a lot of our “allies” would have to confront their privilege that think thing they don’t have.
Facebook will rush to delete a celeb gossip page but will allow various hate pages and pages devoted to abuse stay up forever. Interesting.
One of these days, some person will say some insensitive shit about race, and won’t include the hypothetical green and/or purple people in their sorry-not-sorry, or just not-sorry in this case, response and I’ll think to myself, “Progress!”
Once Hillary gets the nomination she will go back to saying stuff like this:
The apologetics now:
