I hadn’t thought about that aspect of the movie and now I’m just amazed at how even with the most original plots, the same tropes are perpetuated. A seemingly atypical movie ends up still being pretty typical, LOL.

I know why the character is white. I also know that if the character was not white the studios would be less willing to produce it.
Yeah, I think that there are worthwhile critiques of the article that could lead to productive discussion, but most of the critical comments are over the top.
It’s kind of amazing how terrible the comments are. I’m usually in agreement with most of the commenters on here because I’m usually reading articles about Trump (who almost all commenters hate) or the Real Housewives (who almost all commenters like to mock).
Nobody will probably see this because there are already 300+ comments, but there is so much paternalistic white racism in the comments that I still wanted to leave one to let the author know that someone stands in solidarity with her.
One silver lining in this election is knowing that Trump voters are going to get screwed by Trump as well. Every day, he breaks (or hints that he’s going to break) another promise he made to them. It’s great. Doesn’t change the fight that I’m scared of being the victim of hate crime, but great nonetheless.
To be fair, Hillary won the popular vote so it’s not necessarily a majority of the country. Silver lining?
This is terrible, but we’ve been through worse and I truly believe that this country will overcome this. Still, as a black person, I afraid that I might not live to see it if white supremacists really become more violent.
Things like this are probably even more common in Trump’s America, but they were happening long before Trump and his resentful band of merry fools came into existence.
Wow. If this isn’t one of the best illustrations of white privilege, I don’t know what is. Cases like this are why I’m beyond done with white people who lecture black people about our “culture” or about how we need to “just listen to police officers” and “stop breaking the law.” FUCK people who say that when shit…
You guys should do an article on the U.S. women’s basketball team. They get MUCH less publicity than the men’s team (b/c sexism) and yet they are phenomenally more impressive. They just won their 6th straight gold medal (whereas the men just won their 3rd straight) and three of the players on the team have four gold…
When I first found out about her (and liked her), I looked her up and found out that she’d been a “cool girl” on Opie and Anthony. Back then, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed that she had “evolved” as a person and a comedian and had left that “shtick” in her past. How wrong I was, LOL. That was not just…
Yeah, it bothers me when public figures brand themselves as social activists and then completely hedge when the cause they make their money stumping for demands something more from them than just nice words and “empowering” speeches.
I thought it was telling when she said that she asked Kurt to stop posting because it would reflect badly on her. She didn’t want him to stop because his posts were vile trash that perpetuated rape culture. She wanted him to stop because she didn’t want to deal with criticism.
I love that the photo accompanying this article is of a black BPD officer. Never change, Jezebel.
Of course, the main comments on this article are denigrating the WNBA. What’s the point of disrespecting these women? They’re professional athletes who work just as hard as other athletes. Jesus Christ guys - grow up.
After the Orlando shooting, the WNBA actually gave the teams shirts for the players to wear honoring the victims. In other words, the WNBA tells its players to wear shirts for the LGBT community whereas it fines them for wearing shirts related to black issues. Amazing.
I’m black and for that reason among others I loathe the idea of a Trump presidency. I just support Sanders. I’m sorry (not sorry) if that’s not black enough for you. Also, are you always this stupidly reactionary?
Are we pretending that the media’s criticism of Bernie is actually based in concerns about sexism, entitlement and hypocrisy? LOL. The media couldn’t give two shits about any of those things.
