OMG. You just made me realize (as I haven’t seen this movie yet) that the white woman he dates spends a reasonable portion of the movie in a coma. I brought this up in an earlier comment that I’m just sick of women being portrayed as something other than a person (more like a representational figure) in most movies,

I don’t totally agree with the article, but yeah, the comments are mostly horrible. I really wish this was one of those with a separate version posted to The Root.

If this movie was set in Pakistan, and she was an Estonian emigrant or something, one could view it differently. But you are right, the fact that this exists in (this) society, makes it different.

Jezebel is the epicenter of white feminism on the web.

There are multiple issues here and I’m admittedly rambling:

God, almost all of the comments on this really well-written piece are fucking trash. Sorry, boo. The Jezebel commentariat doesn’t deserve you.

The fuck? How did you get “I hate biracial people” from a simple request for non-white men-creatives to stop erasing brown women and a reminder that “interracial relationship” doesn’t mean exclusively <insert non-white race/ethnicity here>+white? Stop making something that’s not about you about you. -Offspring of a

Welcome to the world of Black woman, where we get NOTHING. Rarely the love interest or aspirational woman to be cherished and loved and protected. Pretty much always the sassy best friend who has no life outside of the white folks on screen. And good damn luck if you’re dark-skinned and rock your natural hair/braids.

No, that’s not it. What’s upsetting is the portrayal of supporting brown characters as stereotypes. No one is upset that Kumail ended up with a white woman - we’re upset that his only other choices were presented as jokes or as comically one-dimensional characters.

Agreeeeeed! I haven’t seen the movie yet, but when my husband and I saw the trailer we both wondered why the brown guy gets the glorified white girl yet again! Obviously, this is based on Kumail’s actual life story so I can’t fault the story itself, and I look forward to seeing it. But with so few depictions of South

This is a really bad take on a great article.

Here is your White Trump voter, America.

And just like that she reminds us all that she is definitely, without a doubt, 100% all about self-preservation and doesn’t really want to shake things up or make anyone uncomfortable at all. Thanks Megyn!

What a relief...I was starting to like her.

“I would be very careful about exercising your First Amendment right to freedom of speech. Free speech in a Trump administration extends only to fawning praise, not to criticism or dissent of any kind. You knew this when you voted us in.” -said the scorpion to the fucked democracy.

I’m calling for responsibility and maturity and decency from someone who has held one of the highest positions in our government.

His supporters don’t care.

lol love you Barack but no we don’t. Our fellow citizens are racist, sexist assholes. And the ones who aren’t racist and sexist are at a minimum incredibly selfish and self-serving and they can all get fucked.

“Presumption of good faith”? Nope. Not seeing it. Let me know when the Republicans retract their entire platform built on hatred and divisiveness. Then we can talk.
