If you don’t think Eminem changed the world, you’ve got another thing coming.

9 times out of 10 it’s straight white men who complain about political correctness. They hate that they live in a world where they can no longer make disparaging comments about people that are not like them without repercussion. They want the freedom to disrespect others but of course we have to respect them because…
My understanding of PC= people generally respecting other people and taking other peoples perspective into consideration and really making an effort to try to understand and incorporate other peoples perspectives into one’s own worldview in an attempt to grow as a human being and have a more balanced and holistic…
Red flags always go up for me when people start bitching about “political correctness.” Lots of it is just lazy thinking on their part and an unwillingness to be anything other than a total dick.
Shorter version of what he said: “people aren’t allowed to say whatever they want without being called out for their b.s. anymore.”
Feeding bears isn’t cute; it’s stupid and dangerous. When bears get complacent around humans, and/or come to view humans as a food source, humans (and bears) often end up dead. Plus, this bear is behind barbed wire, sitting up and performing for food. That’s incredibly sad, and doesn’t make me feel like squee’ing.
Jesus, way to be compassionate. She’s clearly trying. Are you really going to fault an elderly woman for taking some time to adjust to her child’s gender transition?
Dorinda dealing with Drunkass Sonja has been the highlight of the season so far.
Damnit, just when I had managed to break free of the Bachelorette cycle. You watch ONE episode because Amy Schumer is on it, then you become invested in some of the contestants. Next thing you know, you’re not only watching the rest of THIS season, but you care about who becomes the Bachelor next season. I will not be…
I was thinking this too. It doesn’t excuse the behavior at all. But people keep saying how bad they feel for the rest of the kids partially because of how brainwashed they are. Josh was raised in that family too. I can imagine not having a normal, healthy sexual outlet messes you up. Not to mention being entirely…
I think a 14 year old shouldn’t be thrown into jail for a long time or be on a register for the rest of his life, but he definitely did something wrong and the way he talks about it now shows that he is still a horrible person.
Yep. I agree with you. I think apportioning the same ‘personal blame’ to a 14 year old raised in a fucked up cult as an aware adult man is ridiculous. Obviously and absolutely that ‘personal blame’ is of no consequence to the victims anyway - but as outsiders looking at the situation from many years down the line I…
Thanks for taking the time to read my comment. I agree that people read your comment as victim-blaming, or a way to make Josh less culpable for his actions, but I think you’re right, it really does matter that he was 14. Because then not only were the victims in the parents’ care, but the offender was also, in this…
According to the last story on this he didn’t rape them. Not that grouping them isn’t seriously fucked up.
I heard a really disturbing, but also really thought-provoking This American Life about pedophiles a few months ago. It was about two young men with really strong pedophile urges that are trying to deal with that, and kind of treat themselves. They have (they claim) never acted on them, and are really horrified at the…
BTW, while I definitely believe that long term incarceration and the death penalty should never be applied to juvenile crimes, for the very reasons you have outlined, I also reject the idea of a 3 year statute of limitations for sexual predation because it does allow people like Josh to avoid consequences and…
Oh, but he got “christian counseling,” which totally unsurprisingly didn’t cure him.
Ah. I can see looking back how it may have appeared that my language was directed at you or hostile. I just really hate this fucking guy (see, did it again).
I think maybe you misread my comment. The first paragraph was about another case, where the boy reported himself because he was ashamed of what he had done. They were both children, and it was an example of a rare case where possibly the abuser might be rehabilitated, posted in response to the person above asking…
I guess it is possible in some cases. There was one case in the news a while ago of a boy who assaulted his sister after watching porn, and who later admitted it because he was so ashamed. In a case like that then I could imagine rehabilitation being successful.
