One of the reason’s I’ve decided to vote for Sanders: he condemns his supporters when they are idiotic whereas Clinton defends and embraces her own.

Is there a history behind the use of “woman” as an adjective? I don’t understand why this is happening so much now. Isn’t the adjective supposed to be “female”? Do people also use “man” as an adjective, e.g. “man comedians”? I don’t get it.
The reason so many white liberals are a mess is because they compare themselves to the very low standard that white conservatives set like you’re doing right now.
“Scott’s rich parents are super WASPy so i wouldnt be surprised if they’ve got addictions”
This is a good example of how privileged people dominate marginalized groups as well. The same way men have historically dominated black movements; how white women have dominated women’s movements; and so on. People, in general, refuse to let go of their privilege even when they are fighting against marginalization.
Remember that time (last night), Lena posted an instagram honoring the “radical women” of the Emmys, but did not mention any of the black women-including Viola Davis-until she was criticized and pressured into changing the photo and including them.
Of the few times I’ve had my blood pressure taken manually, it’s usually when I’ve had an abnormally high or low pressure and the nurse wanted to verify the numbers.
As I told another poster, I was in and out of the hospital for a year because of a life-threatening illness so you’re wrong in your assumption that I’ve never needed a nurse and that I’ve never been very sick. Part of me wants to rectify the misunderstanding that I think we have, but then I keep reading the…
Fair enough. I was speaking from my own experience without considering the greater historical context. Thanks for putting in that context.
I’m in recovery from a serious illness that had me in and out of the hospital (and receiving care from nurses) for a year. I don’t need a “seriously ill” family member to understand because I’ve been (and still am, to a degree) seriously ill so perhaps you shouldn’t comment.
The lack of respect for marginalized groups will always amaze me no matter how normalized it is.
This comment is funny for two reasons. First, I, unlike the View co-hosts, never questioned the fact that nurses need stethoscopes. Second, nurses tend to take blood pressure with automated machines now, not the old fashioned way that requires a stethoscope so your example was a bad one.
1. This seems over the top. I understand why some nurses would be offended by their comments, but it seemed like more of a teaching moment than a “bring the show down, no mercy” moment.
Whenever a white person says some variation of “we need to have a conversation about race” or “I’m glad we’re having a conversation”, then can go fuck themselves, to be honest. That line is always used as an excuse for inaction.
This is extremely disappointing when it comes to Matt. After I saw him come out in defense of public school teachers a few years ago, I figured that he was one of the few white people who was able to see pass “the bullshit”. Unfortunately, I was wrong. He’s just another white guy is unwilling to acknowledge that his…
I don’t like Clinton and, if she’s the nominee, it will be very hard for me to vote for her. But despite my belief that she sucks as a human, this whole controversy strikes me as the sort sexism where people are harsher on women for doing something wrong that they would dismiss if a man did it.
I know which interview you were talking about and I remember that part. I wasn’t contradicting you. I was adding to what you saying by pointing out another way that her internalized “patriarchal hate” has shown itself.
In her show, she also said that would like to date a man because that would make her feel or seem like more of a woman. Fortunately, when she said it (twice) her friends essentially told her that you don’t need men to make you feel like a woman. She’s definitely internalized a lot patriarchal hate, as you put it, but…
Which is amazing to me because, from what I’ve seen of her show, she seems to be attracted to Candis Cayne.
I’ve never supported the idea that all jokes about rape are bad and off limits. I also think that people who try to tell people who have been raped that they can’t tell jokes about it are entitled control freaks.
