Actually, she did complain about racism. From her Twitter before Taylor responded, “I’m not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.”

I took it to be about race from the get go. She posted several other tweets, including one in which she specifically mentioned black women, before Taylor responded to her. Even if Nicki had just been talking about body types though, Taylor’s “women should stick together” response still would have been appropriate…
I cannot stand it when white women use “women should stick together” to dismiss women of color’s complaints of racism. It’s just like when men of color dismiss women of color’s concerns about sexism because such discussions supposedly aid white supremacy. This is why total and complete intersectionality is important.
Yeah, the fact that he’s willing to admit that there’s a problem means something which is sad because acknowledging the problem should be the standard.
Oh yeah. O’Malley and Clinton were the two that I was thinking of, not O’Malley and Sanders.
Thanks for the link.
I thought about the job thing as well. She seemed extremely distressed (rightly so) in that video and I could see how someone with a history of depression could turn to suicide from dealing with the horror of that “arrest” alone, but especially thinking that they could lose their job. You could really hear the despair…
How about not saying “All Lives Matter” thereby demonstrating how completely out of tune you are with the Black Lives Matter movement? How about not dismissing the issue of police brutality as a state and local issue like he did in one of his first interviews after he announced? How about putting a specific plan to…
You do realize that those questions are exactly why I said that I wasn’t sure who I was voting for in 2016 and why I was put off by so many white people being so certain already?
You are the only person comparing. I believe in both. This false choice that you’ve set up is a problem. Your minimization of the role that the president can play in saving black lives is a problem. And, given that I’m on edge from watching the final moments of another black life that was taken away by white…
Do you ask the same questions when someone says they want to hear what candidates have to say about same-sex marriage, abortion or climate change? The President has very little control over those issues as well, but for some reason, people seem to have an easy time understanding what proposals they should make and…
You do realize that the President appoints an Attorney General who investigates corrupt police departments, that the President appoints Supreme Court Justices who vote on the constitutionality of laws that enable black people to fight for themselves, that the President - as the leader of his/her part - can put police…
I was reluctant to watch the video, started watching anyway and had to stop watching when she started crying. I can see the potential for homicide and suicide in this video. I can see how the roughness and indifference of the officer could lead to murder. I can also see how the despair someone in Bland’s situation may…
So is this like Selma for white women?
I don’t get her appeal either. It’s cringe worthy to me.
I used to just laugh at Whoppi because I thought she was just an idiot, but over the last year or so, it has become clear that she is truly a vile human being.
It’s so odd and stupid to me how so many (white) people think ignoring people’s race, culture, etc. improves their perception of people. Knowing those things about people enriches our understanding of other human beings - it doesn’t detract from it. People who claim to be “colorblind” are not only lying to themselves,…
Nothing you mentioned is related to Independence Day though.
Ha. Yeah, she could. I’m not here for Lena, but at least she didn’t have a full meltdown where she cycled through every cliche of tone deaf responses to accusations of racial insensitivity.
She is mad sensitive. That Guardian profile was so tame.
