My bigger point is that US network deals, and really any media deals for the NHL are a tiny, tiny fraction of the NFL and NBA, which ultimately makes all the teams far more gate dependent than their other sport peers.

TV is still a non-issue for the NHL. Their deal with NBC is only around $200M a year. That’s barely $6M a team, or a second line centre. NHL is a gate driven league. If you don’t have butts in the seats, and a decent arena deal, you’re boned.
