Do most Americans do cross-country trips? I’ve done it, but it’s not something that I seek out. My cutoff is around 4-5 hours, then I’m buying a plane ticket (unless I am hauling stuff that I can’t put on a plane).

An interesting take. I was in the market for one and cross shopped it against a Golf R and 5-door WRX. I chose against the Focus because of its aggressive looks and lack of comfort. It didn’t seem especially impractical to me - the back seats didn’t seem that tiny.

Reading through this thread, I think that you’re looking at this from an American-centric perspective...which if fine - I can safely assume that you’re North American. North Americans like huge cars that are bigger than we need for most circumstances.

You make a good point. There’s FU money and there’s FU money. The Benz market, while much smaller than the H2 market was during its worse year, will likely never be driven away by anything like the cost of gasoline.

As Jamisparker suggested, I use a bracket that shares the seat rail bolts. It’s required by certain clubs for track days. The bracket is less than ideal for passengers and it does limit forward seat travel a bit, but this is especially worth it in a car with wiring that’s nearly 30 years old.
