Then there’s the fun car, the all-wheel Audi S5 Coupé, which comes with a 349-horsepower twin-turbo V6. Making it a bit less fun, though, is that fact that it comes mated to an eight-speed automatic, and that no manual is available.

I’ve never been to IMS...but wouldn’t it be a nicer event if things like that were better run?

I’m not trying to excuse leaving a campground messy, but how is the Indy 500 any different from any camping event (such as another race or music festival)? The fans who frequent the music festivals that I do tend to be pretty considerate and bag their trash...but there is always some sort of mess left behind. Tickets

If Mazda ever did build this car, it would not look much like this at all. What’s the point? Why not build a concept car that will look like a production version rather than some designer’s fantasy that will never come true?

So you’re saying that there’s still a hope to turn KITT into a drift car?

They’re fine with an automatic transmission. It just doesn’t make any sense with a CVT, which don’t have any specific set gears.

He must be both fast and furious. :)

Even with a CVT, when there are no gears? See my point?

Old 911 shifters feel like an old truck. Some people hate them (because old 911 transmissions were pretty shitty). I actually find them endearing - I really do feel like I’m rowing on my daily commute). Also, Pow-Pow-Powerwheels rule!

Right, also no transmission tunnel. They could have gone with a shifter from a pre-964 911 ;)

Yep - it’s why I called it an option (e.g. always on, or only during braking).

Certainly - but they could have used a floor shifter from any other Benz. The column shifter made so much sense for the Tesla, given that there isn’t much need to find any gear other than forward, reverse, or park.

    Shoulda used a Nissan picture.

Has anyone who ever bought an “auto stick” ever watched WRC?

Is it better than Tesla’s option for always-on regeneration? Admittedly, the always-on regeneration takes a bit of getting used to, but after a while, I rarely use the brakes.

    You wanted something more substantial?

I debated saying “much of a transmission”...but I didn’t think that there would be any kind of pedantry here ;)

That way you can row your own...cone ;)

I’m surprised as well. The driver’s hand should naturally fall from the wheel to the shifter, and this configuration seems to make sense from that perspective.

Tesla did it too...and they’re not really anyone’s laughing stock. It helps that Tesla’s don’t have a transmission.
