I’m glad he finally confirmed my suspicions! I was shocked at first to learn her identity, but after I went back and reread her books, I realized that Elena Ferrante’s writing style was exactly like Ashley Feinberg’s.

Trump is going to skip the next debate and instead host a pay-per-view where he will literally make out with his daughter.

Last year I volunteered at the community garden outside the public school in my neighborhood. When we pulled up the carrots, I swear, those kids were about to faint from the surprise. “THEY GROW IN THE DIRTS!” “WHAT ELSE IS UNDER THERE?” “IS THERE CANDY?!”

Yeah, that’s one of the things I love about parenting; getting to see everything with wonder all over again.

Balloons 2016!

You cared enough to comment over your disdain.

Lol, I give enough of a shit to click on the article

Don’t forget “... By Design.”

Agreed. If people actually READ the statement the bookstore put out, it’s totally fucking reasonable and something I’d think most people here would agree with. Jez cherry-picked some hot takes without context and put a shitty mocking tang on the whole thing (and most of the comments reflect that attitude). Like, the

That’s fair, and I agree that there’s probably a certain amount of self-parody, but at the same time there is a lot of window-dressing on that particular bit that can be, well, less good. Part of it is Fred Armisen in drag, which as a “joke” falls very flat.

Just a guess, but probably not the independent bookstore that said they lost money agreeing to being used as a set (for a skit that pretty much just straight-up mocks the owners of the store)...?

Well if you’d come here 15-20 years ago and were in the neighborhood where this bookstore is located you would have seen quite a few more. Alas, they have mostly been priced out to the suburbs now.

Ok, but Portlandia is transmisogynistic, 100% white, glorifies the gentrification problem in Portland, and is generally very antagonistic of queer and feminist issues-- and not even for the sake of humor, the show has been floating on the same jokes since episode 1. Also, the Willamette Week is a rape apologist paper

Like, I can see the inherent humor in it, but then again shouldn’t we be a bit concerned that Portlandia has created an environment where sincere-if overbearing-feminism is treated as a joke? I know, there are folks who take it too far, but at the same time as another poster mentioned, good humor punches up, and I

I’m not even sure what “up” and “down” are in this scenario.

I think they were upset tha the BLM sign was removed so it wouldn’t be seen on the show. They also state BLM Portland also meets there regularly, and are also reminding people of the historic racism of the Oregon and Portland in particular. Oregon was formed to be a “white utopia”

As a Portlander (uh oh, cue everyone rolling some eyes) I am pretty over Portlandia. OH we’re so WEIRD. We’re so QUIRKY. We have straw-man feminists and people who need to know the names of the chickens they’ll eat, how DROLL.

“Fred Armisen in a wig and a dress is a deeply shitty joke”

Portlandia is overrated af.
