If you take the bun away from a hot dog, you’re left with... a hot dog.

This is that movie. It’s full of stupid shit like that, which is why it’s so goddamn funny.
The Black Cauldron is book two, but yeah to all the rest.
I think about this more often than one probably should. There’s a spectrum of quality in the anecdotes. Stuff like Skillet or Serious Eats - you don’t even realize you’re reading a long intro because it’s meaningful. A good intro won’t seem unnecessary. IMO, it should have a mix of personal anecdote and good science -…
“Two flours.”
I have bread, unbleached AP, bleached AP, and cake flour right now. Usually also rye and whole wheat.
I’m real picky, though. Probably dropping the Cake when it’s gone. We usually just use the box which is cake flour already (and the other stuff).
The Whopper is messy good. Five Guys gets all the attention for their condiments. You take those away, take away the onslaught of fries - you got nothin. The burger on its own ain’t nothin. The fries’ only strength is the amount. They get soggy real quick.
Culvers is pretty dang good.
Big fan of Checkers/Rally’s as…
Man, my kids are always asking to try my ice cream because I’m the only one in the family who will order the more creative flavors. Or just coffee. Anyway, I now have this cited article to show my wife when she thinks I’m weird for thinking sharing ice cream cones is weird.
The best tips I’ve found are to make sure your cooked potatoes are nice and dry before incorporating anything else. Mash them dry. Then, I always get the butter in - lots of butter. Let that soak in, then add the milk or cream (depends on the day!). If I’m really going for it, I add some sour cream and cream cheese…
They don’t really taste like beets. I think beets taste like dirt (I also think mangos taste like dirt). The dirt is an aftertaste.
They don’t taste like much of anything, really. Like a real weak radish maybe. I like them a lot but they have to be cooked for a LONG time I find.
The baron eating pizza was one of those rare TV moments where I had to pause because I was laughing too hard.
I was just skimming Ratio by Ruhlmann last night and was gleeful to see the ratio for cookies right here in this recipe!
Dear Pulitzer Committee,
No. It’s a large dumpling, at best.
Yeah, the hand pie. The author found them in Denver.
Yeah. Never won.
Are vaccines cross-compatible? If someone takes Pfizers and someone else takes Moderna, do they all kind of work the same way?
Yup. It’s no longer a closure with no idea when it may end - we KNOW it will likely be confined to this school year, with some luck by Feb/March. We ought to be able to hunker down and stay remote until the vaccine hits.
The only umbrage I take here is with the songs. Maybe not THE best, but both When Will My Life Begin and I see the Light are TERRIFIC. Also, I’ve Got a Dream is easily in the top five most hilarious Disney sequences of all time. And it works because of the song!
Truth.
I saw Robinsons for the first time just a year or two ago and found it way better than I’d heard or thought. I will be honest and say it’s not something I’d seek out for myself again, but I’d watch it happily enough if my kids wanted to. It’s a sweet story, though too long for my taste. And it’s a far cry from the…
