This. Greedo has Han at gunpoint, and flat out says he’s going to kill him to collect the bounty. Han waiting for Greedo to shoot first isn’t heroic, it's dumb and/or naïve. And Han is neither of those things.

Bottom line, Han having shot first makes him a more interesting character at his intro.

I think orginally Lucas makes the change because he doesn’t want Han to look like he is shooting in cold blood (an assertion I disagree with, Greedo has a gun drawn on him and just made clear his intent to kill Han - to me that is self-defense, or to put in another show’s context Han is justified, but I digress). No, I’m pretty sure it was just the one movie. A classic hero’s journey that had a perfect ending.
