OEMs typically do not build banks of parts for service. First it is up to the supplier. Second, due to possibility of damage and cost of storage suppliers typically wait until they are running out of a predetermined stock, pull out the tool and make a run of parts. I’ve worked for three different OEMs.

If large companies hadn’t used their “tax breaks” with stock buybacks they would have some cash to weather the storm. Sadly most large US companies traded on the stock exchange use stock prices as performance indicators and bonus targets instead of actually having a healthy corporation.

having owned a VW wagon from this era...I would not touch this with a ten foot pole for free. This is an electronics nightmare. Even when new they were completely unreliable.
