Ugh I hate that! I’m from Hawaii, and people ask me to “say something in Hawaiian” all the time. Especially my white coworkers. When I was younger (when I first moved away) I used to do it. But now that I’m older, I realize the real motive behind why they’re asking: They want to hear someone who looks “exotic” to them…
I was just thinking this. Those off-shoulder tops remind me of what my older sister wore in the ‘80s, the ones with the cut-out sleeves look like some of the dreadful things I wore in college in the early aughts.
Every corporate, industry or fundraising “luncheon” I’ve had to attend over the years for work had the same menu, regardless of the city it took place in: dry chicken breast, a small salad, and bland dessert of some kind. So when I see an event referred to as a luncheon, I anticipate that this is what I’m going to get…
Same. I’m also in California and didn’t hear about this until the last minute.
They’ve had too much (unnecessary) plastic surgery at a young age. Kylie Jenner, for instance — there was never anything wrong with the way she looked. By age 17, she morphed into someone unrecognizable.
Ja Rule transports me back to college (yikes, I’m the old one here!) because his songs were on at every club and the crowd would go nuts when a DJ played them (especially the ones with Ashanti). Those halcyon days of low-rise jeans, Juicy Couture sweats, platform flip-flops and other terrible fashion choices, and…
This may sound like a bizarre problem to have (and to complain about), but I recently got in trouble for skipping a work happy hour. It was scheduled RIGHT BEFORE a deadline for a massive project that we were behind on. After I declined going, I got an email—that HR was CCd on—saying that all work lunches and happy…
Can you do your job remotely? My company just had an employee relocate to the East Coast, but they kept her on staff
Great to know — all those extra feeds seriously add up!
I figured there had to be a trade off with a fare this cheap! I’ve long heard Iceland is an expensive place to visit (as most Nordic countries are) for lodging, meals/going out, and day-to-day things.
Isn’t it a term from the late 1800s-early 1900s? Talk about old timey.
I would love to have a laundromat like this in my city in Southern California, instead of having to go to sketchy strip malls!
I never heard of WOW until today. Out of curiosity I looked up flights from LAX to Iceland, and they have a RT fare for $370! That is crazy! It costs more than that to fly to Honolulu, even during low season.
steak served at a laundromat?
This comment killed me. Perhaps because I live in Southern California and have actually met people like this. Thanks for the laugh!
I just it looked it up, that sounds so good and easy!
Cutting back on political news helped me, also. I want to make sure that I stay in tune with what’s happening, but I try not to overload myself. I’m so thankful that I no longer work at a newspaper! Having to check the AP Wire throughout the day and assign stories on local news, you’re just inundated with every bad…
Congratulations! Sounds like you’re doing great!
I agree that the Gawker writers do rather well considering they don’t have a copy editor. I myself would be terrified to post an article online that wasn’t vetted by my copy chief.
