No, that's not what I was saying at all (Like, literally, that's not what I said) - this is a novel he wrote before he went to Vietnam imagining the experience. Platoon works so well because it's a reflection of experience.

So, a novel written by a 19-year-old… about going to war, written by someone privileged who had not done so (yet)… turned in to a movie by someone else extremely privileged who has also not experienced war, but figures it's a lot like the internal war of growing up…

So You Wanna Be A Rock &Roll Star is a really great read from the drummer about what that experience was like. There's the usual "getting screwed by the studio" stuff, but it's just a really intelligent reflection. A couple moments I especially liked:

I like the idea of someone protesting the group and not wanting to be lumped in with them. They could change their name to "La Manif Pour Tous… Mais Pas Frederic, Parcequ'il Est Un Dick."
