I can’t help but think that was an intentional decision with this being part of the upgrade cycle. I suspect the main market for this is other parts of the world that don’t have reliable internet infrastructure and have technology options from obsolete old inventory, leftovers, etc

I want to know if there’s a registry edit I can make to spoof the “system requirements not met” on a machine that is Win11 capable so Windows will be fooled into not nagging me anymore.

Ear protection makes the music sound better at concerts. The high volume puts constant pressure on your eardrum and makes everything you hear distorted. Think of a speaker or microphone that is being overdriven -- same thing but with your eardrum. Ear protection reduces or removes that constant deforming pressure on

While it seems like a great deal, I want to know what the catch is. Is a major update in the wings that will render the current version obsolete or significantly hampered in some way?

Same. I ended up installing an app to highlight the punch hole for when I take selfies and want to be looking into the camera. The app is really a battery meter that puts a color ring around the hole and I found its easier to gauge battery level than the icon in the notification bar. Best use of the punch hole I’ve

Yeah, me too. Looks like Lifehacker is in the pocket of Big Body Wash.

Huh. I’ve been using a trick I read on Lifehacker years ago about using muffin molds to bake perfectly round cookies. I’ll just continue doing that instead of faffing about with each cookie individually on a hot sheet pan. Muffin molds also yield crispier edges.

My first yoga instructor called it ‘monkey brain’. My favorite sound bath is white noise (I prefer radio static since it can subtly change over time) since there’s no melody or rhythm or anything for my brain to cling onto. It’s the aural equivalent of staring into the void, and my mind will eventually give up looking

I’ve found almost every microwave recipe, including eggs, is better if the power is brought down from everybody’s default high setting. The only exceptions are boiling water and popcorn. High is too powerful and overcooks everything unevenly. My science box is set to medium at almost all times and I get much better

Somebody at work once suggested I make sure the pillow is butted up against my shoulder when I go to sleep (I’m a side sleeper, btw) after I came to work with an incredibly stiff neck. It worked for me. I never realized I would sometimes leave my neck unsupported when I’d sleep. With no support and the muscles slack,

I’ve found WizTree to be faster and easier to navigate than WinDirStat. The developer says that instead of scanning the contents of the drive, WizTree creates the map from the Master File Table. On drives larger than 1 TB, the difference is very noticable. I also found navigating the results easier with WizTree, it

I used to do the same before switching to Lastpass. Taking the algorithmic approach is easy to implement and easy to remember. I’d take something like the first letter of the site name, then the number that letter appears in the alphabet, capitalize all vowels, add -ex after all consonants, and a smiley to the end. So

I know of two fairly simple alternatives.

This is the stupidest fucking story I’ve read in.... oh wait, Jenny McCarthy is involved? That makes sense. It’s still the stupidest fucking story I’ve read this year.

My favorite Coke hack is to push the metal bottle cap into a bar of soap. It makes a little pedestal that keeps the soap from resting directly on the soap dish. That keeps your soap dish cleaner, longer and your soap doesn’t get waterlogged and mushy.

If you want to impress your guests, you call it polenta. If you’re in the south, you call it grits. At the end of the day, it’s just cornmeal mush. It’s just another starch for when you want an alternative to potatoes, rice or pasta and easier and faster to cook. 4 parts liquid to 1 part cornmeal, heat to a boil and

No problem! For all its faults, I do love this town.

*rolls up sleeves*

Yeah, the chimichurri (the little bowl of sauce that is served along with most cuts of meat) is often a risky proposition. It’s mixed up in big batches and stored for long periods of time in often unsafe conditions. Many restaurants will recycle leftover sauce used by other diners too, so... double dipping yukness
