One time in the 60's an issue included a record like that, titled “It’s a Gas.” The lyrics consisted entirely of a guy belching.
I read MAD in the 60's, and there are still jokes and lines that I remember (“I think that I shall never hear a poem as lovely as a beer ... Poems are made by fools, I fear, but only Schlitz can make a beer”). The usual gang of idiots did more to prepare me to deal with the world than anything else I read as a kid.
Give credit to the Dodgers for some ferocious plate discipline, especially the guys who walked with two strikes on them. Two strikes, two out, down a run in the bottom of the ninth. You have to be pretty cold to hold back on just about any pitch within reach in that situation.
This passes for good news these days. God help us.
Devil’s advocate: Rich people just want things like this to go away as quickly and quietly as possible. They hate having it pointed out to the world how stupid and gullible they are. It puts them at the top of the list for the next ripoff. And, for suckers like the Waltons or DeVoss, so what if they lose a few million…
Cops are cops. Doesn’t matter whether they’re in Minnesota or Chicago or Baltimore or anywhere else.
People, please — learn the English language. “Strangle” is a dramatic word, but that’s not what the guy did. If he had strangled her she would be dead, not unconscious. “Strangle” means to kill by choking. You’re bananas.
The Athletic says Richt was told recently he wouldn’t be calling plays next year and the OC would be free to make staff changes. The AD might not actually be as surprised as he says he is.
An additional complication is that substances display different properties at the nanoscale than they do in larger concentrations. Are nano-particles of volatile organic compounds still carcinogenic or irritating? Are nominally safe substances emitted by the printers still safe? Maybe someone has figured all that out,…
“... the fans’ grievance stems from their dissatisfaction about ... how things seem to be increasingly moving toward a raw profit-maximization focus at the expense of the fans’ interests ...”
Regardless of he’s suffering from, the last thing he needs now, and probably for the rest of his life, is having people bang on his head repeatedly.
Could you PLEASE stop running that jerk’s picture every time you write about him? It’s creeping me out.
Great job, State News.
Enough with the Mets already. They’re a shitty team, we get it. We got it after the first 500 stories Deadspin posted about them this season. Here’s a bulletin for you: No one outside New York gives a fuck. If Deadspin were really going to be an alternative to ESPN and the TV networks, you guys wouldn’t obsess over…
Few people seem to be aware that Forbes magazine and forbes.com are very different things. Forbes.com is basically a vanity publishing site with no editorial supervision. From Wikipedia:
Cause-and-effect question: Did this happen “three days after his ex-wife filed a domestic violence civil protection order against him” ... or did it happen “immediately after he became yet another became another embarrassment for the university”? You don’t get fired from a big-time college football program for…
