He wasn’t just a cameo, he wrote the script for the original Cannonball Run movie. It was initially slated to be a much more serious film with Steve McQueen as the star but when he died, Hal Needham hooked him up with Burt and the rest is wonderful cinema history.

I loved the movie as a kid, and loved it even more when I found out it was based on a true story, right down to Yates and Gurney doing the run in an ambulance. Brilliant. His audacity and his passion will be missed.

Brock Yates has always been such a huge reason I became so enamored with cars from an early age. Does that list really suggest they used USED air filters & diff oil?

My aluminum cell liked to “breathe” a bit of gas fumes. It was a sealed unit that was plumbed directly into the stock fuel system and gravity fed. Gravity feed is nice since nothing more than a valve was needed for fuel transfer into stock tank (at the cost of slightly higher center of gravity).
