Possibly the most humane, morally decent American writer, and there’s now a bit of a push to label him “problematic” because he called semicolons “hermaphrodite transvestites.”

Yeah, maybe Spider-Man will actually be a “blue collar” hero again, and not the “chosen one” to replace a Billionaire tech oligarch.
The statistics cited aren’t even that convincing. Every single driver in Canada reducing their idle time by three minutes only reduces emissions by 194,000 cars. That literally makes no meaningful difference.
A shot of rum/whiskey/vodka/whatever has about the same calories as a beer. And beer tastes better.
Always thought this. In-n-Out is fine. It’s not “bad.” It’s just not this phenomena that everyone has you believe. There’s something called “Fosters Freeze” in NorCal and I thought they had better cheeseburgers there.
My family is Mexican and almost all of us eat Taco Bell regularly.
On a national level, politicians who portray themselves as “progressive populists” have done pretty well. While he governed as a neoliberal, for example, Obama ran as a progressive populist, and I think the results speak for themselves. Traditionally conservative strongholds such as Missouri and North Carolina went in…
Please. Rum Punch was one of Leonard’s lesser novels. Most of the really interesting things about that movie (e.g. Pam Grier) are Tarantino’s ideas. There was very little--if any-- aging wistfulness and regret in Rum Punch. And Tarantino nailed that aspect of the story, which he rarely gets any credit for.…
The nerds are coming for you for that one.
Apparently there are skinheads/neo-nazis hunting cops in this adaptation, instead of actually being cops, so you’re probably more right than a bunch of commentors will give you credit for.
Yep. I sat on a second-degree murder case a few years ago where a guy literally shot and killed his neighbor and invoked that law (I think it’s called something different in Colorado, but it’s the same premise.)
There’s nothing subjective about physically assaulting a child with a weapon.
Everybody thinks I’m a psycho, and probably rightfully, but put some cream cheese on a toasted eggo waffle. It’s a great snack.
That’s because the obviously racist people don’t like being called racist.
That’s in large part due to the media itself treating obviously racists behaviors and speech as “politics” when there is a clear-cut, unmistakable difference between the two. We as a culture and society have to stop accepting this.
Who is supposed to be fighting for us up there?
It’s not so clear cut, my man.
I like Ratto. He’s good and insightful, and he can occasionally turn a phrase.
As a mental health professional, I’ve gotten many, many “false alarms” for suicide, and, yet... I still have to treat every threat as an imminent one. If I don’t, and something happens, I lose my license.
Totally. There have been times when I’ve recognized recurring voices. Hell, how many people actually answer their phones when they don’t recognize the number, or listen to the person trying to give you flowers without hanging up on them?
